This might be the most important stat for our defense

Really impressed with Seattle's pass rushers this year. I think this is something this system needs to flourish. Looking forward to the off season to hopefully see if the 49ers can add an effective edge player to reap the same benefits of the same system

Can't really stress enough how important the upgrade in Offensive Coaching has been for our Defense.
Running the ball with a lot more efficiency.
Time of possession by our rugged & pounding Offense gives our Defense way more time to rest up between bouts....Shootouts are harder on Defenses, but a pounding & grinding of a Running attack flat wears the opponents Defenses to a frazzle, PLUS, the eating up of the time clock, forces their Offense into an urgency mindset, that's tough enough for seasoned QB's to navigate, but it's especially tough on young Quarterbacks with limited NFL experience.

Considering we play the Cardinals this week it's entirely possible we finish as a top 5 scoring defense. 10 points separate us from the #6 defense, 27 points from the #5 defense. Going off averages, if we shutout Arizona we'll finish anywhere from 6th-4th, hold them under 10 and at worst we finish 7th.

Here's where it gets interesting. We're one of 4 teams that have a legitimate chance at finishing with a top 5 scoring offense and defense. Since 2010 5 of 8 Superbowl champions have at least one top 5 unit and the other in the top 10. The best historical comp for Seattle analytically is the 2005 Steelers. I don't know if that's good or bad.

OK, for once the 2005 Steelers have something positive to offer. They are the model for this year's Seahawks, but not for the Offensive and Defensive rankings. The Steelers did something very special that year:

Won Wild Card 31-17 vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Won Divisional Round 21-18 vs. Indianapolis Colts
Won Conference Championship 34-17 vs. Denver Broncos

They WON THREE ROAD PLAYOFF GAMES coming from the Wildcard slot, to get to the Super Bowl.
That is the historical comp that applies. Definitely a GOOD precedent for this year's Seahawks to follow.

I assume there's a tweet in the OP. I can't see embedded tweets when I browse from work. Can someone please tell me what it says?
It lists top-10 scoring defenses in the league. Your Seattle Seahawks come in tied for #9 at 21.5 pts/game.

Seahawks Scoring Defense Ranking under Carroll
2010 - 25th
2011 - 7th
2012 - 1st
2013 - 1st
2014 - 1st
2015 - 1st
2016 - 3rd
2017 - 13th
2018 - 11th (currently)

They have allowed just 10 points more than the 6th ranked scoring defense. Arizona’s offense has been bad at an historic level. Hoping for a shutout.

Now, you know that for years, the Seahawk D has a history of making random backup QBs and rookies look like Pro Bowlers? I swear, it just seems like it sometimes. The SF QB was the latest one. Who was it, Mike Glennon, who staked Tampa Bay to a 20-0 lead in Seattle in 2013? OK, so Seattle *did* eventually win that game.

We almost made Josh Rosen look good in the game in AZ. Now we've got film on him and we'll see what Norton & Co come up with to bring a little "sunshine" to his world.

And I know that you are aware of this too, it's my rant, not a lecture.
Kind of like the years-long propensity for the Hawks D to give up an excessive number of 3rd-and-long conversions.
Stuff that leaves us scratching our heads and going "Huh?"
