I look forward to San Fran's hard line stance on Aldon Smith.

This has to be one of the most instance years for a franchise in football history with everything that has taken place weekly it seems. I'm not going to list them all like I did in a previous post, but it just seems to be getting worse. That franchise is like a black hole right now

He was drinking with Ray Mac the day after the alleged sexual assault. I think his probation only prohibits a certain level of alcohol while driving but I think with someone having his issues...it should be a zero policyLaloosh":3uix7idz said:

This 49er mess feels closer to a "blow it up" sort of situation than anything. I guess it depends on how much faith you have in Colin Kaepernick, but that team probably needs to be remade. They have some key pieces that are old on defense, poor Eric Reid can't be counted on to have a long career with his head injuries and the secondary is a mess, P-Willis is now over thirty and might start to lose a step after injury, and the OL is probably losing some key pieces in FA as well. I think if they're ditching Harbaugh, they might hire a coach with a clear vision and let him tear the thing down.
I also think that if they're going to go for a big-name hire to follow Harbaugh, they should consider letting Baalke go and letting the new coach sit in on the GM hiring process ala Carroll and Schneider to try and create greater synergy between the coach and the GM this time around. I'm not so impressed with Baalke that I think he's necessarily key to retain. If Paraag Marathe is kinda poisonous in that FO too, as some reports say he has been, maybe dump him too.

Aldon Smith is a special kind of football talent, and I can appreciate that. He is one of those players that if he focused on his craft, and committed to it he could be one of those once in a lifetime players with his ability to get to the quarterback.
If he was in fact drinking, which maybe he was maybe he wasn't I would want him cut. The reason is is because it would give my team an opportunity to address his position in the offseason. My main concern would be knowing that his next mess-up it just around the corner, and will most likely be a bigger problem if I lost him during a key stretch in the season, and the distractions it once again would provide.
We have bomb threats
Stabbing at a party
Assault Weapons (that were most likely purchased out of state for a reason)
Horrible DUI that could have killed someone
To top it off, these are just the things he has been caught for or involved with. I can assure you there are 3 times the things he hasn't been busted for or involved with which is why this player is a time bomb.
I remember at around 18 realizing that you are the average of the 5 people you spend your time around. Aldon Smith seems to put himself in bad situations at every opportunity and hasn't learned anything yet. He is too big of a gamble and at some point is going to leave 49er fans wishing they would have moved on because his selfishness is going to cost them big at some point. It is just going to happen
