I think people need to understand the context to really grasp what's happening to RGIII.
For the last 20 years, the Redskins have been so desperate to have a Franchise QB, they have anointed any decent QB, the next Big everything. I remember Gus Frerrote, Tony Banks, Patrick Ramsey, Jason Campbell, ... Anyone of them who had a decent season was hyped by the DC Media and ESPN...
The Washington owner and media are also interested in doing anything to make more noise than the Dallas (Cowboys) market and the New York (Giants) Market. RGIII flashiness also makes him a great Media attraction for ESPN and all the news organizations.
RGIII is a very good athlete, a more than average (college) thrower, had great numbers in college and also happened to be African American (Redskins have a very large following of African Americans who live in the DC/MD/VA Area). The DC Market and ESPN were desperate to create the next "LeBron James".
Oh well ... I hate to say this, but the Media hype might have killed this young man's career. I'm convinced he could be a very serviceable QB is smaller markets, away from the Media Hype and pressure. I think they should shut him down for the season and give his body time to heal for good. NFL Defenses are smelling blood when they line up opposite of RGIII.
For anyone who follows soccer, RGIII reminds me more and more of Freddy Adu, a soccer phenom hyped by ESPN and the American media , when he joined DC United right out of high school at age 17.
