The team just isn't fundamentally sound. They don't understand how to play "small ball." The difference between the good teams and bad teams is simple things like batting a guy from 2nd to 3rd. We don't do that. It seems like each guy comes to the plate with his own agenda. It's still early, but I'd like to see the team focus more on getting guys on base and then doing whatever it takes to advance them, whether it means bunting them over, sac fly's or stealing bases. Because I have zero faith in this team stringing together two consecutive hits to get a guy from first to home. I thought the new regime was all about the small ball, so far I haven't' seen that at all.

And right on cue Marte doesn't touch 2nd on a DP so lead runner is safe and instead of 2 out no one on, there's a runner on 2nd in scoring position with one out. Walker then strikes out Fielder for what should've been out #3. Beltre follows with a single to score the run. How Marineresque.

Can't believe I just did this, but I got $70 to win $50 on the M's today. I'll be an actual fan today for obvious reasons. They had a players only meeting after yesterday's game plus trying to avoid the home-stand sweep.

Dae-Ho Lee thank you!!!

What's going on with the Astros? I think their early struggles have more to do with the tough schedule. Never easy to open the first 8 games on the road and then come back home and play the defending world champs. I still think they run away with the division. I do question their starting pitching, after Keuchel they don't really have another dominant SP. Then again, the Royals won it all last year with not the best starting rotation. But they did have the best bullpen in all of baseball.

They were a terrible road team last season. I think they'll be fine in the long run.

The Cleveland Browns of MLB....wow, sad but true.

Kjr this more gave morning evidence the M's are the Browns, we lost our 1st round pick in the 2010 draft, because of The sighing of Figins.

I am an optimist. Iannetta is a pleasant surprise, as is Martin, Lee, Lind, Aoki........

Bullpen is juiced! Starting pitching....mmmmm.....maybe they can be dialed in. Karns looked good vs the Yanks.

They should call up O'Malley!! :thirishdrinkers:

Funny thing, but one of my favorite episodes during the game came in the 7th inning. Leadoff runner aboard, steal 2nd, sac grounder gets him to 3rd, sac fly to score the run and pad the lead. That kind of small ball is something we've needed. The ability to move runners and tack on extra runs late in games is valuable.

I kind of disagree with the announcers about the pitching. They were lauding the fact that we forced them to leave 11-12 men on base, I was kind of annoyed that so many got on base in the first place. I guess that is a bit nit-picky, but still.

All-in-all, nice come back after the home slide. Much of the off-season work was looking ineffective in the home series, it is starting to show up now. Let's hope it continues. Felix has had a pretty good career in Yankee Stadium IIRC.

Wade Miley is a disaster.....can't believe there isn't anyone in the farm system better than this guy. If there isn't, it wouldn't be worse than what Miley is producing right now. Why they even thought this guy was worth a trade (they traded Elias and Carson Smith for him) still is puzzling me. Two guys with promise for one stinker. So he eats up innings. I guess when you let the game get out of hand early, you can eat up innings. He wasn't that great in Boston either.

I'm confident Paxton will replace him at some point this season. We would have never signed Miley if we knew Iwakuma would fail his physical with the Dodgers and return to us. Miley is nothing more than an innings guy.

I disagreed with that move when they made it also, but it is what it is and like someone above said I think Paxton will take over in short order. I was really an Elias fan but whatever.

Cisek gets two quick outs in the 9th and then promptly allows two hits so tying run is on third and winning run on second. He did finally get out #3, but damn can't this franchise find a closer that just gets three up, three down in a save situation?

At this point I think we need two Mariner threads like the Gonzaga outcome. Lose five in a row and everyone bitches. Win three in a row and everyone bitches.

Not everything is perfect, but there is a lot of estrogen in this thread.

Maybe the M's should just play 120 games a year on the road, and 42 at home.

They certainly have been a lot better on the road so far. Here are the splits for this season so far, today's game not included.
