By far the best and most satisfying game of the year. I am surprised no one has responded to a complete game 3 hit 11 strikeout performance by Walker, not to mention that Cruz homerun that sounded like thunder during a lightning storm. Great game. :D

I know weird things happen in baseball all the time, but with the way Ms are still alive fighting for a WC spot, it's absolutely maddening how the team that currently holds the WORST win-loss record in the entire league, the Twins, actually swept the Ms not long ago. Gaah! Would have been just a wee bit helpful had the Ms done the sweeping in that series.

Oh well, it is what it is, I'll keep rooting away!

To be fair that was way back in May, and a series that started what turned out to be 7 consecutive series losses as I recall.

The current team we are fielding should mop up the Twins fairly easily. I assume most if not all of their pitchers - by now - are AAA call-ups and hopefuls.

A bit more recent series loss that still sits unfavorably in my mind is the Yankees series loss in August. After they traded half of their team away it felt as if they would be out of contention and perhaps yield us a few wins, but no. But here we are just 2.5 back and tons of momentum, with (arguably) the easiest schedule to close the year as any of the teams in contention.

Games like this are what keeps Walker around, he shows flashes of brilliance then his next start he is back to crapping the bed, so frustrating to watch him pitch. But this will earn him another year, hopefully the coin drops and he puts it all together. Helluva game last night!

100% agree. The guy is the definition of inconsistent. He threw a gem yesterday. But couldn't get out of the first inning two starts ago. And his previous start was very average (5IP, 7H, 3ER).

I've been on record saying I don't get the hype with Walker, and my opinion hasn't changed after last nights performance. He has a career ERA north of 4 and has a career W-L record under .500. Sure he is young, but so are a ton of other really good pitchers who are already performing at a young age. At some point you just have to say he doesn't have it. But people in Seattle will continue to say, "he will turn the corner eventually!" They said that about Ackley, Smoak, etc. At some point, they are what they are.

I'm fine with us keeping him around because he doesn't have much trade value, but I wouldn't depend on him as anything more than a #4 SP going into next season. And if we do make the playoffs, he would make me very nervous if he started.

OK, your opinion is your own, of course. I've been hearing some good discussion about what they've done to correct his mechanics. Sounds to me like they have identified a couple of things there and had him work on them. This is actually his second consecutive decent start. Nobody is saying he is more than #3 on our staff behind Felix and Kuma anyway. If he becomes a solid 3/4 option for us, I'm kind of OK with that for now.

Didn't they change his mechanics a year or two ago. When he completely changed his delivery. Not to say it won't work, but we've seen this before. But I agree with you, if he can be a solid #4 I'd be happy with that.

I guess in sports I just hate the guys who get passes because of the "hype/potential" factor whereas hard workers like LeBlanc get cut after doing a more than solid job. I wouldn't call his last start great, it didn't even count towards a "quality start." I want to see how Walker responds in his next outing.

8 wins in a row, 10 out of 13. 1.5 games back of Toronto with 16 to play. 78-68 overall. 88-89 wins likely needed. Getting very exciting.

Iwakuma threw a gem tonight and Wilhelmsen, Cishek and Diaz were money. Big time clutch homer by Cruz.

If you're not following the M's lately you should start. This race is going down to the final game.

going to be fun sitting back and watching the AL east beat each other up over these last 16 games. If m's just stay the course they should get in, though finishing the season with a 24 game winning streak would be nice too

Hope to see Safeco packed all weekend!

I will be there all 3 of the Toronto games. I haven't been to a game in a few years, and was shocked at ticket prices - I have always sat in the right field seats (dating back to the dome days), come to find out they are $50/ea these days. Used to be $26 back in my season ticket days (2003-08).

Looking forward to the most important 6 game homestand we've had in years!

Longest winning streak in franchise history is 15 games, back in 2001 (of course). Something to aspire to :irishdrinkers:

I think they said Toronto has been in the crapper lately. Is that true?

NIce that they are still relevant in Mid-September. Would be nice if we could beat up on Houston, too.

.

They're 79-66 but have lost 7 out of the last 10.

Huge series against them coming up.

Me too. This is what I was hoping for earlier in the season, something we haven't had in too long. I'll admit that hope started to wane a bit a few weeks ago, but thanks to the recent resurgence, we can definitely get in! Feels a lot like the Seahawks' mantra: It's how you finish!

Should be fun hearing the excited, loud, and raucous fans packing Safeco Field from here on out.

$8 tickets this weekend as ownership wants the stadium full and people will be going to the husky game or watching the hawks at the weekend.

Tigers are losing 4-1 to the Twinkies in the 7th. Then they go to Cleveland for a 3-game series. Lucky for Detroit they send Verlander and Fulmer to the mound in 2 of the 3 games.

Boston starts a 4 game series at home against the Yankees. I still can't believe the Yanks are in the playoff race after being major sellers at the deadline. It wasn't until they traded everyone away that they started contending for a playoff spot.

Toronto gets lucky, as they have a 4-game series at the LA Angels.

Baltimore also gets a favorable 4-game home series against Tampa.

I think it is safe to write off KC at this point.
