Well, we're 8 games over .500 which puts us right on a 90 game pace. Not outstanding, but still well in the playoff hunt.Glasgow Seahawk":2y7536xj said:I know we are focussing on wild card but we are now only 5.5 games behind the Rangers who are getting pounded by detroit. They have to play the Astros, rockies and detroit again in their upcoming series. Its possible...espexially as we have a 4 game series against the angels then the brewers coming up

Hmmm, kind of liked the kid, but between Marte and O'Malley, I think SS is covered pretty well.Glasgow Seahawk":3vln746m said:Sardinas traded to the Padres for PTBNL

That might have been me on the Bloomquist comparison. Yeah, O'Mally can cover the OF, too, and he's a switch hitter, so kind of a great guy to have around, even it he's not "starter" quality.Hawk-Lock":2shz0kn3 said:sutz":2shz0kn3 said:Hmmm, kind of liked the kid, but between Marte and O'Malley, I think SS is covered pretty well.Glasgow Seahawk":2shz0kn3 said:Sardinas traded to the Padres for PTBNL
Someone mentioned it before, but I think O'Malley is our modern day Willie Bloomquist. He can do everything for us and play multiple positions. I'm still not sure what to make of Ketel Marte. For one, I don't get why everyone in Seattle talks him up so much. His numbers are far from impressive. Yes I know he hasn't been very healthy this year, but when he has, he's been pretty pedestrian.
He is hitting .262 with a lousy OBP of only .292. And he has little to no power with only one HR and only 19 RBI's. An OPS of .635 puts him near the bottom of the list of 2B. So why does everyone love him? Yes I know he is young and he has potential. But people talk about him around Seattle like he is no doubt our future SS.

As far as Marte, I think we're impressed with his glove. He's had some pretty good plays on D, and seems to have pretty good rapport with Cano to turn the DP. SS is more of a defense postition, so being a bit weak at the plate can be bearable if he's giving us outs in the field. I know, I've seen him make some pretty decent plays. Seagar, Marte, Cano, platoon at 1st is a pretty solid infield IMHO.
I miss Brad Miller. I'm still peeved about that trade. Give me Miller over Marte any day. Marte is just unimpressive. I don't understand why so many people are all over his jock. He needs to be down in Tacoma. He isn't anywhere near big league ready. It Seems as if Servais is forcing his playing time, trying to justify him. With how well O'Malley has been playing, he should be the starting SS. Marte has done nothing to earn his playing time.Hawk-Lock":1e03qu2v said:sutz":1e03qu2v said:Hmmm, kind of liked the kid, but between Marte and O'Malley, I think SS is covered pretty well.Glasgow Seahawk":1e03qu2v said:Sardinas traded to the Padres for PTBNL

FWIW, Brad Miller is hitting .260, with 22 HR's, 52 RBI's and an OPS of .822. He's having a much better year than Marte, and it's not really close.
Yep not a fan of Miller talentwise. Nice guy, hustled, just short on talent. He is a 25th man and utility infielder not a starter.storm74":2eppjbbf said:If Brad Miller hit .400 with 100 homers I still never want to see him in a Mariner uniform again. Horrible in the field, horrible in the clutch, just horrible all around.
I was really pissed when we traded Saunders to the Jays. Had a hard time staying healthy though.
