Hopefully LeBlanc can spin a gem tomorrow. I don't trust the offense to score 5+ right now.

We need to take the series tonight. I don't feel all that confident about it with LeBlanc on the mound, but we'll see.

I'm not too worried about the Tigers, they should fade. They just don't have the pitching to stay in the race IMO. Of the 3 AL East teams, I think Baltimore fades. They don't have the starting pitching either. Other than Tilman, the rest of their starters are very average.

I know we are focussing on wild card but we are now only 5.5 games behind the Rangers who are getting pounded by detroit. They have to play the Astros, rockies and detroit again in their upcoming series. Its possible...espexially as we have a 4 game series against the angels then the brewers coming up

Well, we're 8 games over .500 which puts us right on a 90 game pace. Not outstanding, but still well in the playoff hunt.

In mid August. It's the best the M's have done at this time of the schedule in many years.

Seems like all the other wildcard teams suddenly decided to wake up. Seattle just won two out of three and still somehow dropped a game in the wildcard standings. At least Detroit has been keeping pace by beating up the Rangers.

Catching Texas won't be easy but we still have 7 games left with them. So if we can manage to go 5-2 we can catch up 3 games. But that is a big IF.

Stupid SF blew a huge lead and loss to the Orioles. To no surprise, Miley got hammered.

I like Toronto to win the AL East. I like Boston to get one of the wild cards. I think that leaves one wild card spot between us, Baltimore, Houston and Detroit. I'd probably give us about a 15-20% chance of making the playoffs.

Hoping for 3 from 4 against the Angels. Their pitching sucks but Trout and Calhoun can still give us fits.

Hmmm, kind of liked the kid, but between Marte and O'Malley, I think SS is covered pretty well.

Someone mentioned it before, but I think O'Malley is our modern day Willie Bloomquist. He can do everything for us and play multiple positions. I'm still not sure what to make of Ketel Marte. For one, I don't get why everyone in Seattle talks him up so much. His numbers are far from impressive. Yes I know he hasn't been very healthy this year, but when he has, he's been pretty pedestrian.

He is hitting .262 with a lousy OBP of only .292. And he has little to no power with only one HR and only 19 RBI's. An OPS of .635 puts him near the bottom of the list of second basemen in the league. So why does everyone love him so much?

FWIW, Brad Miller is hitting .260, with 22 HR's, 52 RBI's and an OPS of .822. He's having a much better year than Marte, and it's not really close.

That might have been me on the Bloomquist comparison. Yeah, O'Mally can cover the OF, too, and he's a switch hitter, so kind of a great guy to have around, even it he's not "starter" quality.

As far as Marte, I think we're impressed with his glove. He's had some pretty good plays on D, and seems to have pretty good rapport with Cano to turn the DP. SS is more of a defense postition, so being a bit weak at the plate can be bearable if he's giving us outs in the field. I know, I've seen him make some pretty decent plays. Seagar, Marte, Cano, platoon at 1st is a pretty solid infield IMHO.

According to this ^^^, Marte is pretty average defensively in comparison to other shortstops. I don't think his defense is good enough to make up for his lack of hitting and power. I've always thought of him as a solid shortstop defensively. Definitely better than Brad Miller defensively. If not, might as well bring Brendan Ryan back, since he was considered "amazing" in the field. Marte's numbers this year are lousy, yet everyone loves him. Yet fans are quick to jump on Adam Lind. Marte's batting numbers are pretty pathetic. His defense isn't good enough to make up for it IMO. Personally, I've always thought defense is pretty overrated. Just my opinion, but I think people like Marte because he is a guy that came up through the farm system. He is still young, so the jury is still out. But I'm not going to call him our shortstop of the future.

I miss Brad Miller. I'm still peeved about that trade. Give me Miller over Marte any day. Marte is just unimpressive. I don't understand why so many people are all over his jock. He needs to be down in Tacoma. He isn't anywhere near big league ready. It Seems as if Servais is forcing his playing time, trying to justify him. With how well O'Malley has been playing, he should be the starting SS. Marte has done nothing to earn his playing time.

If Brad Miller hit .400 with 100 homers I still never want to see him in a Mariner uniform again. Horrible in the field, horrible in the clutch, just horrible all around.

I was really pissed when we traded Saunders to the Jays. Had a hard time staying healthy though.

Oh Brad Miller was really not much better than what we have at the moment. He didn't hit at all. Marte is struggling for sure. I want to see more O' Malley.

Yep not a fan of Miller talentwise. Nice guy, hustled, just short on talent. He is a 25th man and utility infielder not a starter.

Saunders, l wasn't mad they traded him. Couldn't stay healthy, was the ultimate tease as a player as you saw glimpses of good potential, as he has speed and power.

.....But when his swing got long, which was most of the time, he had one of the worst swings in MLB. He finally shortened it up and has been more consistent with it which = success. Time will tell if he can sustain the shorter swing or fall back into bad habits.

When his swing gets long he has a HUGE ugly hole in it.

I am happy for him that he is having success as he seems like a genuinely great guy.

I'm with the stat nerds who have our odds around 40%. If the playoffs were decided by pythag and not wins, Seattle would be a playoff team right now. Thanks to the bullpen getting their crap together, Seattle is now a team that is winning games in excess of their pythag for a change.

It could be argued that Toronto, Baltimore and Boston are all slightly better than Seattle, but they all play each other and will beat the crap out of each other next month. It seems like a lot to ask for a single division to produce three teams with 92+ wins, and that's probably what it would take for them to shut the mariners out of the wildcard.
