Down 10-1. After the Cubs put us out of our misery, all talk about the M's and the playoffs should be over with. Anyone who thinks this team can make the playoffs needs a reality check.

Every season there is a team that goes from .500/mediocrity and makes a run in August/September. Usually, it seems, that team is located in Oakland. Why not us?

Our bullpen needs serious help. We need a solid starter. Do I think we could ship off Aoki and/or Lind and a minor league player for a couple of pitchers (not necessarily in the same deal)? You bet.

As someone already mentioned, it will be interesting to see what our new GM and manager decide to do. I think at this point we are more of a buyer than a seller. I think we'll survive the trip to Chicago and stay buyers for the time being.

I just think there are too many problems with this team, particularly the pitching. We honestly don't know what to get with any of our pitchers. At least in the past we knew that we could get one quality start every 5 games with Felix, but that is no longer the case. The bullpen is just awful, nothing more to say about them. We need multiple pitchers to stabilize the rotation and pen. I just don't see us making the trades that will put us over the top.

But you're right, anything can happen. That's sports. I just don't see any indication that would make me think this team can finish 15 games over .500. This teams motto for the past couple months has been .500 baseball. And in comparison to the teams ahead of us, they're simply better than us.

Like I said, M's fans will put the playoff talk to rest after the Cubs destroy us. They're my pick for the World Series. If they can just get Arietta back to his old self, they are close to unstoppable.

Its funny how the Mariners hadn't really been blown out all year, and then they suffer their two most lopsided losses of the season back to back right before the trade deadline.

Not that getting blown out 22-2 over two games is ever a good thing, but at least the timing is nice. I did not want the M's to be buyers. They have a negative record and a negative pythag since the end of May. They've been bad.

With owning the oldest MLB roster, and a farm system that is in the bottom 1/4 of the league, this team is going nowhere fast.

Trade Cruz
Dangle Cishek, Miley, Karns, Aoki, Ianetta, and Seth Smith out there and see what you can nab in return

At this point I would even begin listen to offers for Cano'.

The Mariners actually have an awesome farm system and have for years. Just ask the Indians, Orioles and Blue Jays.

There is no reason to trade Cruz, you will not get even close to his trade value back because of his age and contract, and he is still productive. There is no salary cap in baseball so keeping him isn't going to hurt your cap. Cano's contract is bat crap crazy so no team will want it, and if they do you are not getting anything of value back because of that contract.

The rest you mentioned are spare parts with little trade value.

The M's are in no man's land trade wise, stand pat or nuke it and blow it up.
It's not wise to blow it up and trade all of the talent you have for prospects (which most will not pan out) when are trying to build a fanbase after being an epic failure of an organization for the past 13+ years.

Real baseball isn't fantasy baseball, and rebuilding processes take 4 years minimum most of the time in baseball.
If they wanted to rebuild it should have started Dipoto's first year.

The Mariners have had enough self created PR problems over the last decade plus to rebuild at this point in time.
They have to hope that they draft exceptionally well, scout well, and find diamonds in the rough in trades, that's the ugly truth at this point......if they don't draft well, scout well AND trade well, Dipoto and company are goners sooner than later.

Weird that we played a day game (a morning game local time) on a Friday. Despite the lopsidedness, I still watched most of it (switched back & forth with the PGA Championship and Women's British Open...)

What is the date of the trade deadline? August 1st right?

I want Chris Sale. In real life, not just my fantasy league

The Cubs play a lot of day games. It wasn't that long ago where they used to only play day games.

I believe the trade deadline is Monday at 1 PM PST.

I wish we could get Sale, but we just don't have the pieces to get him. I get the feeling it will be a fairly underwhelming trade deadline. Good chance the Chapman trade is the biggest trade before the deadline.

Sale would be awesome but the Sox would rape anything we have left in the farm plus Felix and Walker/Pax.I have been saying for a while we need another rebuild with the new FO,we are not going to get far for years without one.I say be sellers and get the max haul of high ranked near ready players.Draft well and sign more from that international FA.When you watch the Cubs they show you how it's done and they were awful for a few years but it paid off.

Well, if Miley is on the block, he's putting on a hell of an audition. No hits and only one walk through 5 innings.

MLB just doesnt want their adorable little cubbies to lose. Worst "safe" call i've seen all year. So much for replay.

wow glad we won that! Thank you Martin

Yeah that ump was awful, basically getting every play at the plate wrong.

Good rally for the M's. As good as Chapman is, he can be very wild at times.

Felix on Sunday Night Baseball tomorrow. I'm most likely hammering the Cubs on the ML.

M's catch a break tonight. Chicago is going with a guy who hasn't started a game in years instead of Kyle Hendricks who was suppose to start.

Miley has been traded to Baltimore. No link yet, but the Twitter feed on Google is blowing up with it. All the tweets have come in the last two minutes.
