The way the 49ers draft in the 1st round, I'm kinda glad they traded the picks:
  1. Solomon Thomas #3 F
  2. Reuben Foster #31 F
  3. McGlinchy #9 C
  4. Bosa #2 A
  5. Javon Kinlaw #14 F
  6. Aiyuk #25 B
  7. Trey Lance #3 Inc (I realize you already have him as a bust but feel free to point it out again).
a C overall grade for the top 10, D+ on picks 14-31. Maybe its just as well they traded the picks, save wasting a roster spot.

trading for trey lance:

pros

- kid must have some potential, right? i mean the 49ers traded 3 1sts and a 3rd for him with a superbowl ready team. right?

cons

- hasn’t played since 2019
- team that drafted him doesn’t like him
- outplayed by the last pick in 2022 NFL draft
- not accurate
- injury prone
- goofy af
- not as great of runner as anticipated
- already balding

That last one was uncalled for.

imagine if 49ers had stayed at #12 in the 2021 draft and taken 2x all-pro micah parsons, while also keeping their other 2 future 1sts / 3rd. honestly the rest of the league dodged a bullet.

good thing 49ers didn't listen to this pre-draft report: https://nfldraftdiamonds.com/2021/03/trey-lance-20/

- "The film clearly shows possible UFA, practice squad, scout team type of prospect with no upside." ... oof.
- "Looked like an athlete trying to play quarterback."
- "The film does not lie. ZERO DOMINANT TRAITS ON FILM."
- "Looks the part up until he throws the football."
- "Tends to lock in and telegraph throws too often."
- "Takes way too many sacks and yardage losses."
- "Not a field general commanding type."
- "Does not exude confidence."
- "Deep passing game was erratic."
- "At times looks absolutely overwhelmed against the rush. Does not throw the ball away to avoid sacks."
- "NFL DB’s dream QB." :eek::eek:
- "If Trey Lance played at a regular D1 program, we would not know his name. Would never start in the SEC."
- "Broke man’s version of Donovan McNabb" :poop:

Don't think they would have taken Micah Parsons out of college and still would have taken a QB. Parsons was not projected as an pass rusher and only had 6.5 sacks in college. 49ers were and are still set at LB . 2021 draft was projected to be the best QB crop of recent years and 49ers were in a unique situation of having a high pick due to injuries

He's worth at least a second. They would not trade him for less. They will keep him on the roster otherwise and not take his 5th year option. He is more useful as a backup for them considering the injury history of 49ers qbs and Purdy's unknown timeline. If he gets an open competition with Darnold in camp and wins the job he could get starts early season. If he performs decent this could translate into a higher pick. And if he does not beat out Darnold, so be it, but he is still worth more than a 3rd or 4th round pick to the 49ers as Darnolds back up right now.

I think the 49ers would be smart to give Lance every chance he can get at the starting job early season because if he performs well it could recoop some sunk costs

So this may all be a bunch of talk, because I don't think the 49ers will take less than a second and I don't think a team will offer a second right now. But if the 1st round doesn't go as a team has planned and they don't get a 1st round QB, they may have Lance evaluated higher than any of the later round prospects and do a trade after day one.
Two points;
1. Titans are calling to see if they can buy him cheap.

2. All these reports say 49ers are listening to offers but NOT initiating any trade calls.

it would be nice to have all those picks back to be sure. I’d love to be watching say both Bosa and Micah Parsons terrorize Geno over the next many years. Unfortunately they blew it on the Lance pick, so now we have to settle for Bosa and Hargrave terrorizing Geno over the next many years.

I am sure they’d listen to three first rounders for cmc too, or anyone.

Hargrave won’t be terrorizing anyone. Dude has had one good year his entire career. Ask Steeler fans. I’m not saying he sucks but dude gets tossed around a lot against the run. Dre’Mont Jones was the big free agent prize not 32 year old Hargrave. That signing was a bit of a reach for SF and kind of a head scratcher

I'll take the expert opinions there rather than scout Frodo

The way Purdy played spoke volumes as well. He made Geno Smith look like a scrub the two times the 49ers played the Hawks. Obviously after the performance he put on from his first snap to deep in the playoffs means he deserves the starter nod. The QB room is looking pretty good for the 49ers going forwards. Which, I imagine, is why some of you are trolling Lance so desperately.
Sf protected Purdy with running the ball and check downs. Nothing crazy . We'll see how things go in year 2.

Lynch gave up a lot for Lance and he crapped his pamper.
Sf has a fantastic qb room with ... uh..
Huh...um...

Yeah.
