I can't imagine this wasn't talked about during the preseason, but it just occurred to me. Will the Hawks' starting receivers next year be completely new? I know we have separately talked about whether or not Golden would be back. There is concern over Rice and throw on top of that his big salary and I would be very surprised if he is back. I had not yet thought of them jointly however. That would put new people in both slots (though I imagine Harvin would be one of them).

I haven't really chimed in on the debates before (I don't chime in on much anymore). But I wouldn't mind seeing Rice go but would like to see Golden stay.

I think most fans are waiting until the season is over before they speculate which recievers will remain on the roster. There are factors that come into play before one can make a guess on this particular question including overall production, injuries, available free agents, contracts of not only the recievers but other positions that may affect other players...

I think you pretty much have to lock up Tate. He's earned it at this point IMO. Rice and Miller will more than likely be asked to restructure to make room. I could even see a scenario where Rice moves on down the road depending on the evolution of Chop Chop. I think Zack's still too important to this team as a blocker to part with, and while he may not be the best recieving TE in the world, he's still pretty good. He might be one of the best dual purpose, "classic" TE's in the game when he's healthy. A guy like that gives you tons of flexibility. However, I don't think he's so great that he's beyond asking to restructure...

But yeah... Tater and Baldwin stay for sure.

It's hard to justify a Rice contract on a run first team, but that's the cost of doing business. The team has made an even bigger investment in Harvin so you're likely correct in the WR corp next year.

Harvin (though he might fall under new as compared to kick off '13), and Baldwin will be back. I'm thinking Kearse will be, too. Rice is the only one I have major questions about at this point with Tate being an outside possibility of going for the money rather than the family (though I consider it a very remote chance).

At this stage I think Tate is a no brainer depending on how big Sherms contract winds up. Baldwin also has been earning his keep this season, Kearse likewise but perhaps less so than the others two. Folks writing Rice off already might get a rude awakening performance wise this season, but his Salary is unrealistic to continue.

Now to throw a monkey wrench in the works, hypothesize that we do win the Superbowl this year. What does that do to this situation? Any of these guys allowed to enter FA would be snapped up in a shot I think. The last thing I want is to have this team stripped to its core like Baltimore was. Pretty blinkered to think that every one of them is willing to take a hometown discount.

Tate and RW are really close, and so are their significant others from past reports. I would be really surprised if Tate chooses to go to any other team. That only happens if we don't make a fair offer or if some other team makes a ridiculous offer that is just not matchable. I don't see that happening.

Rice though is going to have to do a major rework to stay and that may not even be enough to let him stay. I could see the team letting Kearse see if he could take a starting spot.

As for Miller I keep hearing people talk like we have to restructure him or he goes. That is just nonsense. His contract is not excessive at all. Just look at what happened when he was out last Sunday. He is too valuable to this team to lose and we have no TE who can take his place on this team. He is not going anywhere.

He has a far better chance of staying than Rice does. It's not that people don't think Miller deserves what his contract states, it's whether you can keep him at that cap number at the expense of other players. His cap number is 7 million in 2014 and 6 million in 2015.

Harvin has a cap number of about 12.5 million each year from 2014 to 2018. Sherman and Thomas are going to expect top dollar and Wilson is going to be paid starter QB money.

I think they're both gone. I don't know that you want a corps of Harvin, Baldwin, Tate. Just too small. I LOVE me some Golden, been a fan since day 1, but with as strapped as we appear to be for cash, I don't think you can justify paying him 4x as much as you could get a rookie or cheap replacement or Kearse for. The guy can't get open. You can run screens to him, and you can throw it up to him and hope he comes down with it. I personally think he is kind of killing Russell. If we didn't have Harvin, who is even better at screens, you keep Tate, no-brainer. I'm not saying he doesn't have value by any stretch. We could get a player for 1/4 the cost, and it isn't going to cost us much production, and we possibly could improve by going with an average, young receiver, if that receiver can get open a bit and win a slant route or hitch.

I heard Miller is the highest paid Seahawk this year, and he's going to catch 20 balls. No offense to him, but we can replace his production for 15 cents on the dollar. I think he is a very good player. But we don't use the TE enough to justify paying one. Platoon Willson and Kellen Davis, and I don't think we'll see much dropoff.

Yes. Miller is highest this year, followed by Rice, Lynch, Clem, Red and Unger.
In 2014 (Barring new players, contracts, restructuring etc) it's Harvin, Okung, Rice, Clem, Avril, Red then Miller.

Exactly. Miller's contract is fine for who and what he is, but it's a matter of fitting it all under the cap with monster contracts looming on the horizon for Sherman, Thomas and Wilson (y'know, 3 of the most important people on the team). I can see Miller getting a small extension and getting some bucks spread out over a few years to make it all jive with the cap.

Very cool, good info. I see a lot of adjusting. Rice, Red and Miller. That can save us a boatload. Like I said, I like Miller, but we could get his production for less than a mil.

Before I get labeled as a hater again, I will disclose that besides Kearse, my 3 very favorite Seahawks are Earl, Tate, and Red. My heart would love nothing more than to keep Red and Golden, but my head just can't justify the production vs. salary ratio.

No prob. It's from overthecap.com . All fans should make a habit of that site.

I've said it since the off-season, I have a really hard time seeing us use Harvin/Tate/Baldwin as the primary receivers. That's three 5'10 receivers catching balls from a 5'10 QB. Based on age and current production, you could also argue that Rice might actually be available for cheaper than Tate next year (assuming Rice re-structures).

I could definitely envision them restructuring Rice, signing Baldwin to a 2nd round RFA tender and letting Golden walk. That would pain me deeply, but this could realistically be the cheapest way to go about it.

In a perfect world for me.

You cut Rice, re-sign Tate, tender and trade Baldwin to the Colts for a 3rd rounder.

Your WR corps would essentially become Kearse, Tate, and Harvin.

Draft a big WR early, grab a few others later rounds, grab a few cheap veterans that have talent in FA that are fighting to stay in the league like Kenny Britt and make it a competition.

As well as use some resources to fix the line.

Keep Miller, he's essentially a 6th OT, and he can be productive with more targets but that's on Bevell and Wilson not Miller, who has been consistent, tough, and does what is asked.

And while I think Willson is talented he would do much better learning how to be consummate pro from a guy like Miller as long as possible.

We need to know if Harvin's hip is arthritic first and I'd also like to see Miller stay on the field a bit more before recommitting to his contract.

Hopefully Harvin plays great here in Seattle or the FO wasted a first round pick and a lot of money. WR will be overhauled in the off season. Tate has to play better imo if he wants a big contract I certainly don't think he's worth what Rice is making we'll see how this year plays out.. Rice won't be back he's not worth the salary but even more importantly he is injured to much. Miller's contract needs redone as well.

I would love to see some fresh blood in our WR corp, Rice is an overpaid #2 and other than Harvin we have no 'real' dangerous weapons that scares a defense with this group...

But, I will hold onto hope when Harvin comes back it will open things up for Rice and the other guys.... I want to see Kearse get more into games....

I know this isn't thread related (maybe it is) but, to get the best out of our WRs we need to "feed the Beast", I can't believe Lynch has only had one game were he has had over 20 carries this year... LOOK at the rest of the games he has had 17 carries in the other four games, 17 in each of them? it's like Pete is holding Lynch to a pitch count for some reason.. and it's driving me nuts!

We probably wont bring Rice back and many of our FA's are going to start getting swept off their feet by other teams, Tate and Baldwin may be two of the first.
