After a 2022 offseason that saw the acquisition of key players and draft assets was followed up with a surprising season and a run to the playoffs, the Seattle Seahawks find themselves with the potential to pull off something big.

But trading for Baltimore Ravens quarterback and free agent-to-be Lamar Jackson? Maybe that's too big of a dream to invest energy into.

Maybe ...

Still, the Seahawks have to pieces to make it a realistic deal if the opportunity arises. With the No. 5 and No. 20 overall selections in April's draft, they already have the beginning puzzle pieces to pull off the unlikely and acquire a franchise-defining talent like Jackson in a potential sign-and-trade. Despite playing in 12 games this season after suffering a knee injury, Jackson comes with his own uncertainty, but the Seahawks would be foolish to overthink themselves out of a deal.

Both teams have the cap flexibility to get it done as well, as the Seahawks ($31 million) and Ravens ($26.8 million) rank seventh and eighth in available cap space, respectively.

Of course, a deal like this would mean Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith would have to sign elsewhere ... or maybe he could be one of the key items the Ravens receive in this hypothetical trade.

Either way, no Smith means no real answer at quarterback next season for a Seahawks team that will settle for nothing less than another postseason appearance.

And using their two first-round picks along with a few players in the deal could be enough to give the Seahawks one of the league's most electric players.

But for now, best not to get expectations too high.

They wanted clicks, they're gonna' get them. He's a great player. But is ALWAYS injured it seems. Also, doesn't exactly come across as a team guy. He wasn't even at the playoff game with his teammates. None of us actually know, but imo there's nearly NO chance this happens.

Dude... don't you think the plan should be to upgrade from Russ. Geno is better than Lamar.

Whether Geno is better than Lamar is debatable. But Geno is a better passer than Lamar, will likely be significantly cheaper, and wouldn't require a complete restructuring of the offense to accommodate his skillset. That's the issue the Ravens are having with Jackson. He's not a consistent enough passer to run a traditional offense. And the style that he excels at carries a significant injury risk. It's like building your entire offense around an elite RB.

The comparison of games started each year is kind of interesting .......

............. how come the author of the article fails to mention the need for a stand-in for those games/occasions when Jackson is feeling a bit under the weather?

Good lord why? Jackson is gonna want to be in the $40 mill + club. No thanks.
He’ll start at the Watson contract (46 avg w/ 230 guaranteed) and go up for there.

Fun player to watch, but that playoff record doesn’t bode well. The Ravens fully committed to his strengths, produced a strong defense, and have good coaches & front office. The result: 1-3
