Commentary without insight comes off as being intentionally divisive. Share your perspective, whether we all agree or disagree, the community as a whole is better off with diverse opinions, so long as we keep things civil! So tell us what's amusing, what you would do or change? Just don't sit on the sidelines and laugh at people for expressing their passion in a way that differs from your own.

In general this thread is incredibly negative. I would change that. I think 5 different players have been "The worst player on the team."...which is laughable. Players have bad runs of form...doesn't mean they are bad players.

I would change the level of credit thats given to Schmetzer. Sure, he got a great player in Lodeiro...but he also lost Clint Dempsey and sans 1 game, has changed the defensive mindset of the team.

Brian Schmetzer is the reason that we have the opportunity to make the playoffs and that fact seems lost.

We're down to 10 men and still the team controlling possession and the attacking flow of the game.

Yeah, Schmetzer has done nothing to transform this team, its all Lodeiro...

Right.

It's the same argument when people solely blame Bevell when we lose.............the turnaround is a team effort, led by Schmetzer. I give the dude all the credit in the world.

We needed someone fresh with some energy and new ideas. No way in hell this team is right now in the playoffs without Sigi gone and Schmeter's influence on the formations and tactics. But between the stripes, Lodeiro, Lodeiro and more Lodeiro.

I don't think anyone is blaming Schmetzer for the loss?

I think the thread has been negative at times because for large parts of the season the Sounders sucked and their best player got sold right at the start.

Things have been better lately but the draw mid week was disappointing and I get why people are frustrated when one of your best paid forwards is useless in front of goal and Ivanschitz gets hurt.

Right.

You cite possession. You bring a player like Lodeiro in who understands movement off the ball and using negative play to keep the ball and you don't see how important that is to the possession you cite? You see how much better everything and everyone around the team has gotten since he arrived. The new manager has done nicely allowing his players to use their asset without investing too many changes philosophically or mentally.

Your post amuses me...

Sounders lose to Dallas in Sounders 2016 fashion. Give up 2 goals in 10 minutes. Chad Marshall gets hurt and leaves the game, the Sounders forget how to play defense. To boot Portland won their match against Colorado and gained 3 points.

Geiger screwed us, good goal chopped off and a soft ass free kick given which Dallas scored from.

Can someone with more knowledge of the MLS playoff scenarios post a synopsis of where the teams stand?

Standings

Sounders have RSL at home next weekend and Portland goes to Vancouver. We win, we're in. We lose or tie, we have to hope Portland loses or ties.

The wildcard is Portland has a CCL match on Wednesday against Saprissa. So what do they do? Rest their starters, play for the win with another match Sunday?

I forgot this scenario;

If Seattle beats RSL, Portland beats Vancouver and SKC draws with San Jose, Sounders would host Timbers in the one-game knockout round. Not likely, but still a possibility.

Not sure about this. In your hypothetical scenario the Sounders would clinch the four seed and SKC would be out.

I pulled it off of Matt Pentz's Tweet, he's the Sounder's beat writer for the Times.

According to the table, In that scenario:
Seattle would be at 48 points
RSL would be at 47 points
Portland would at 47 points
SKC would be at 45 points

RSL and Portland would have one game playoff

Then he should lose his job for incompetence

I think Pentz was talking about the knockout round OF the playoffs, not a one game playoff to see who's in the playoffs for tiebreaker scenarios.

As far as I know, there is no play in matches. There's a laundry list of criteria to determine who's in, even if tied in points. Goal differential, etc.

Time to make schmetzer the permanent coach. Hes earned a chance at it now.

I agree, and the time to do it is now, not the off season.

Give Schmetzer and this team a reason to trust and reward him for doing the almost impossible..........and carry that momentum into Thursday.

What a time for Valdez to get his first goal of the year! (With a hint of offside). Hopefully that opens the flood gates for him.

Cant believe the ref took that crap off Feilhaber at the end, ozzy won the ball and Feilhaber was acting like he died.

There is zero reason Schmetzer should not be permanent. He's got as far as Sigi has most years when Sigi may have had stronger squads or better regular season records. You cant even argue its because Sigi didn't have Lodeiro, Schmetz hasn't had Dempsey or Oba up front and is still doing well.

I think we can take Dallas, we did okay against them last time and I feel Geiger screwed usm plus ozzy and Evans are back now.

Bad, bad, bad refereeing.

Usually wouldn't care, but I feel a bit for Sporting.

Given we got screwed a ton by poor refereeing at the start of the season and just a couple of weeks ago at Dallas i'm fine with it benefiting us for once.
