I doubt that lesson will go to heart after Sunday (good or bad), though.

We lost our opener in Jacksonville (strong defense, early start, warm weather) the year we went to the Super Bowl. Just sayin'.

However...I don't see us losing this week. Carolina will be lucky to score 10 points. They scored 3 on offense last season against us.

- West coast teams going east for early start, not so good

I can honestly say I was not worried about the Bills game last year.

Week one is always completely unpredictable, not often an indication of the season to come and quite often inferior teams beat better teams. Do not gamble week one.

Talent in the NFL is so close, even between the Hawks/49ers to Jags/Raiders, that a great gameplan that catches a team off guard and is an entire offseason in the making is enough to make the difference. But over the course of the next 15 games the picture tends to crystalize.
