Better than $44.500,000, younger, and with luck a potentially higher ceiling Geno's early years in the league were not that special either. I really want to see the structure of his contract b/c his first year could be somewhat less then what Geno would have got.

I agree. Younger, cheaper and comes with an extra 3rd round pick. I'm not disappointed in it. I view both QB's as bridge QB's.
And the avg is actually less than the $36M. I wrote that when it was reported at $110M. It's $33M avg if they played out all 3 years. Also It was $55M guaranteed wasn't it? So you can look at it that way too.

At some point we're all bridge QBs.

I don't love Darnold but the contract isn't crazy and if he ends up not being meddling it's a huge win. They could've gone all in on a rookie QB they love but they clearly don't have one in mind at the moment and guaranteed in their draft position. Doesn't change the fact that we still need an oline and now some significant receiving talent outside of JSN. The question of "can he lead us to a Super Bowl" -- not if he doesn't have help, but I thought Geno could with the right team, why not Sam?

Is Darnold going to be throwing to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jalen Nailor, and TJ Hockenson here in Seattle?
Totally valid point. I am holding my opinion on which Darnold we will see based on the draft, free agency, and the protection and or weapons they can put around him. I just didn't feel that keeping DK or Geno was a great long term play. Based on their contract expectations mainly.

While Darnold might have had discouraging performances in week 18 and in the first round of the playoffs, at least he led his team to a relevant game in week 18, rather than a meaningless outing where he was stat-padding against backups, the backups of a team that won the division largely aided by the three INTs, including a fourth-quarter gift to an uncovered defender in the end zone, he threw in their first matchup. And at least he led them to a place where they weren't watching the playoffs from their couches.

It's good for us that Darnold has that experience now. A lot of QBs struggle the first time they're in that situation. Hopefully, he'll kill it here, and we'll be happy he was bad in those two games, because he wouldn't have come so cheap without it, if he had become available at all.

The Vikings won 13 games with Cousins in 2022 so wins can hide a lot of flaws. The Falcons fell for fools gold thinking that Cousins is what they needed to be a playoff contender last off season when they need to construct a team first before finding a QB.

The Seahawks are not a QB away and on this point JS does understand this which is why he is loading up on draft picks. But the QB debate is pointless if you do not put a competent team around any QB that is under center.

The problem the Panthers realized with Darnold is that you need to really load up on players around him to maximize what he can do and that isn't realistic. Which is why they took a shot at drafting a QB.

Any QB can function with a heavy running game and play action but when the chips are down to make money throws that is where you need high end WRs and a QB that can make tight throws under pressure. Darnold is a precise passer when not under pressure but when under pressure he is very ordinary and nothing special. Holding the ball as long as he does is something you see with rookie QBs. Canales preaches releasing the football quickly and Darnold would be the last QB he would ever consider because of that reason. Mayfield and Young improved under the training of improving release time of the football as a result. I am not sure there is anyone on this staff that can train Darnold to undergo such a transformation.

I'm in the minority, and I really don't care, I'm looking forward to seeing him play. The deal turned out to really be a 2-year deal with an opt out after that 2nd year. Per year was a lot less than most anticipated he would get. Give the dude a chance. I just have never understood the pitchforks before a guy even plays a down for the team.

Well said. A bad playoff game doesn't erase one hell of a season. And better than the previous guy.

I think its completely understandable to have concerns it won't work but it's definitely our best option and doesn't tie us down to a bad contract.
It's worth a shot. If it doesn't work out so be it.

Possibly. The roster is not yet set ;)
Well if Schneider signs Cooper Kupp and Chris Godwin or something like that (since Fries and Dalman are off the market), it'll go a long ways. They do have some money. And if they can properly coach up as many rookie OL as they're going to end up with, and if Kubiak turns out to be more than the mid nothingburger that he's been his whole career, and if we can find a solution at CB2, and if it's the Minnesota Darnold that emerges and not the processing nightmare that the Jets and Panthers got, then we're fine.

But that is a lot of ifs. And you do need to be competitive in order to attract new free agents and retain your own. This "take a step back this year" mentality is little more than venting.

It's like putting a Porsche engine in a 60's Volkswagen Beatle. Why?

I might be out of touch, but it was a bad choice. Sure, it will keep the wheels rolling at the qb position, but at what cost?

I would of went with a cheap vet, or rookie for qb this year. This will keep the Seahawks average for two years. Just my two cents, and I'm o.k., if I'm wrong.

Like many have said, the offensive line! Ranked at the 31st place. Fail!

A little help? What is Gregg trying to say here about Geno being better than Darnold at football and how he sees the field?

https://www.nfl.com/videos/rosentha...ld-but-geno-smith-is-a-better-qb-the-insiders
I agree that Geno is overall better, but I do not agree that Geno sees the field better. His lack of field vision was a primary cause of a lot of the ints he was responsible for, especially in the red zone. I'm hoping Darnold is an improvement in that category.
