I would say this is what a franchise level QB looks like in today's NFL:

StatisticMinimum Threshold
Passer Rating95.0
Completion Percentage65%
Passing Yards (per season)4,000
Touchdowns (per season)30
Interceptions (per season)12 or fewer
Yards per Attempt7.5
Touchdowns per Attempt5.5%
Interception Rate2% or lower
QBR (Total Quarterback Rating)60 or higher

Serious question about Darnold. It seems as though most fans are expecting him to be a bridge QB much like Geno was. He is 7 years younger than Geno so that almost automatically gives him a little longer bridge(?), maybe.
My question is what does Darnold need to do in 2025 to merit another season? It looks like his contract is really a two year deal. If he stinks it up in 2025 then a rookie QB in the 2026 draft is basically a must have.
Does he need to replicate his 2024 Vikings stats, do a little better than ‘24 Geno or just show consistency and competency?
What does Sam Darnold need to do in a Seahawks uniform to dispense with the bridge QB monicker and be the guy moving forward for the next decade?
I think consistency, leadership, positive stat line of course like triple plus td to interception ratio, and that intangible some guys have and others don't, does he make others around him play and look better, will his teammates run thru a wall for him. Stafford has that, Mahomes seems to, Burrow does, Wilson did not, Rodgers did but lost it somehow I think with his growing Ego, Allen has it, just examples.

There is more to a QB then just Stats.

I’m assuming they won’t draft a QB now.

I don’t even know if they would’ve drafted one had we re-signed Geno.

As Darnold is much younger, I don’t see them taking a QB at this point. Maybe it’s the positioning (I.e., don’t grab a guy unless you have a top X pick). Whatever the case, the last QB we drafted was well over a decade ago…kind of crazy isn’t it?

Not that I agree….they’ve got to start taking shots. Perhaps we’ll see a 7th rounder that no one’s ever heard of get picked up.

But a premium, early rounder? No chance.
There has to be a long term vision for the offense. We can see what the objectives are on defense by signing a player on each level on the defense long term.

As a 49er fan, I feel sick about this. I think it's a good move by the Seahawks. Geno Smith was never going to take your team anywhere. You had seen the best he had to offer. The 49er defense collapsed last season, yet it still took a last second luck play from Geno to beat a pretty bad SF team. So, offloading Geno and making room for Darnold was a shrewd move.

Sam reinvigorated his career under Kyle Shanahan. Nobody wanted Sam Darnold two seasons ago. The 49ers picked him him for peanuts. Shanahan turned the man's game around. Darnold took his reinvigorated act to Minnesota and absolutely BALLED OUT. That's one tough division. But the man BALLED OUT.

I think he will do the same for Seattle. It kills me to say that. But I think he will do well. There is only one thing that could hold the Seahawks back. Your head coach. The guy who helped shove Petey out the door. I'm not sold on him. I have serious doubts about your ownership as well. Your coach has got to produce this season, otherwise he's out as well.

If you think our head coach held us back, and he does even better this year, you best be trembling in your skivvies.

I just noticed something here :

The O-Line, which some fans are calling trash looked FINE HERE.

So some out there seriously think Sam can't handle THAT? Wow.

Those guys are really sleeping on Sam Darnold here.

Darnold made Minny's struggling O-Line look better than it actually was.

You'll see.

(oh and Mr. Walker is a goddamn mother-loving BEAST!)

Jalen Hurts had 18 TD and 2,900 yards and won a super bowl. Mahomes only had 26 TDs. with a YPA of 6.8. Herbert didnt break 4k and had 23 TDs.

Sam Darnold got to 35 TDs with an int% above 2%.

Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson are the only two that match these numbers in 2024.

Ya these are just baseline stats that one should have to be considered "franchise" level, imo. ie, 50 million+ per year. There's going to be some season outliers.

Hurts is decent, but on any other team is not that great. He has SB-caliber support around him. Top tier o-line, run game, defense. As a pure passer, he's alright. His mobility makes him dangerous.

Mahomes had a down year but typically hits these baseline stats.

Herbert isn't bad but I think his reputation makes him seem better than he really is. Plus Harbaugh likes to run the ball so that affected his passing stats.

Darnold can succeed if he has the level of support that Hurts has. As of this moment, he doesn't have that.

11:13 of the Vid : "Geno needs a team to commit to him as their Franchise guy"

Geno is 35 f'n years old!!

His chance at being a Franchise guy is long gone.

The hell is this narrator talking about?
