OK, deal . . . that sounds fair.
Unfortunately, we will not know the official results for a year. But at least I will enjoy lording the comp projections over you.
Hey Popeye,
What do you want your avatar to be?

Because it's essentially a ream him from behind "prove it deal" that will probably net the the Broncos a 3rd or 4th Round comp pick, while giving the Seahawks nothing.
If you remember from the Patriots team option with Darrelle Revis, they were able to circumvent the rule that prohibits comp picks for players coming off one-year contracts and thereby gain the 2nd highest comp pick in this year's draft.

I do remember that, I have never heard of it referred to it as the poison pill. Only poison pill I remember being called so specifically by name was the Steve Hutchinson deal.

It's not an actual "poison pill," which was outlawed by the league. It's the metaphorical equivalent, i.e. strange contract language that screws us over again.

He average less penalties last year than 35 other tackles, including Joe Thomas, Tyron Smith, Trent Williams, Jason Peters, Andrew Whitworth, Lane Johnson and just about any other "elite" OT you can name.
I wish we could've kept him, but I don't blame him for wanting a clean start. Dude caught so much undeserved flack.

Okung just needs to put in a solid year and he is getting $12M/yr the following 4 seasons. Though I wonder if there is any bonus money when the option if/when the option is picked up by the Broncos?
I agree and the contract should be treated the same way for both teams involved. If Denver declines the option but is eligible for a comp pick then the league is saying that it was indeed a 5 year contract and not a 1 year contract. That means that the Seahawks should still net a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick based on the terms of the 5 year contract. But if Seahawks only get a 5th or 6th then the league is saying that it's only a 1 year, $5M contract and therefore Denver shouldn't be eligible for any compensation.hawknation2016":jwvfc16v said:Like with the poison pill, the league should absolutely get rid of this comp pick loophole. Refusing to exercise the option is not much different than releasing the player. Teams like New England and now Denver will be unfairly compensated for what amount to one-year contracts.
Yeah, if he makes through the 1st yr healthy, he gets 7m including the bonus. Nothing guaranteed after that, so basically an upper-scale 1yr prove it deal.drrew":2lrq8jpx said:hawknation2016":2lrq8jpx said:Subject: Strong offer for Okung (NYG, DET, DEN in the mix too)

Hate to tell you, but sounds more like a $5m first year deal with a bunch of option years. I'd imagine that would change the compensation equation quite a bit.
Harris only gave up 3 sacks all season and none in the SB. He did allow Ealy to get a hand on Manning's arm causing a fumble though.ctrcat":1lsro6ia said:massari":1lsro6ia said:The Broncos won the SB with Ryan Harris starting, which should make you feel a bit better.DavidSeven":1lsro6ia said:Whatever you think of this deal for this specific player, there is still a gigantic hole on the roster. I'm glad Okung got paid, and I'm really appreciative of everything he did here for us. It's too bad he was marred by injuries, now watch him be injury free at Denver![]()
Good luck Okung, and Godspeed. You deserve it! Denver overpaid, but that's fine by me. Comp picks!!
