Ricky Watters Appreciation Thread

I remember when we first got him he was coming off his second team (Eagles) and there was a lot of soundbites over his comment "For who? For what?" due to not wanting to give his all to the team. I thought, "Ah man, great, another malcontent."

It couldn't be further from the truth.

When he became a Seahawk, he quickly became my favorite Seahawk at the time. I am hard pressed to think of a Seahawks player that played harder, on every down, than Ricky Watters. Every down felt like it was his last, or 4th down in the Super Bowl. Emotional, emotions on his sleeve kind of guy. My kind of guy. I wish he would have spent his entire career with us. Stud.

Remember we brought Watters in to be the back up for what we thought would be a starter in Shaun Alexander, Shaun's lack of intensity and desire to block made Ricky stand out and so he started, he also could catch the ball, something Shaun didn't do naturally well. IIRC they did the veteran courtesy thing of calling Ricky and letting him know they were drafting Alexander. Watters was fun to watch.

Ricky really won me over when we finally beat KC in Arrowhead in 1999 for the first time since the Krieg to Skansi miracle in 1990. Ricky came to play that day.

I absolutely loved Ricky Watters. His attitude and swagger was Richard Sherman before Richard Sherman. Loved him in our blue with the Hawk Sleeve.

What was interesting about when he came here was all the talk about the time he did the Alligator Arms when he played for Philly.
So, people acted like he wasn't tough. Dude was tough as nails. Had good hands too. Wish that entire team played as hard as he did.
Funny how you can go from hating a player to loving him once he comes to your team.

He was All Effort, all the time. Loved him.. LOVE the Jerseys...

Watters retired after he left here. He was 33. I'm seriously starting to question the memory of a lot of older fans on here.

Why do people badmouth Alexander the Great? He was superior to Lynch by far. Show me a 230 lb guy who can out run an entire line and break it. Our only MVP. It was no gift. One of the best players of all time in a Hawks uniform. If you want to find a guy faster than Lynch look to Matt Hasselbeck. Matt ran in front of Lynch threw a block against the saints suspect secondary.

Greatness is measured in more ways than speed. Alexander was softer than Charmin, Lynch was/is/always will be tough as shoe leather. Men would follow Marshawn into battle, I wouldn't follow Alexander into a Starbucks.
