I just want to take a moment and this space here to give a shout out to AJ Barner.

Through five games this season, the second year pro has 14 catches for 134 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Every time Darnold throws the rock his way, something good seems to happen. I love the way he plays. He’s a solid blocker, pass catcher and an all around great player. I believe he’s the most underrated player on the team so far. The sky is the limit for him, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s considered a top tier tight end in the league by the end of the season, health dependent.

Lastly, for you PFF folks, he has a 78.4 PFF grade, which is 2nd in the league at his position, if I’m reading that right.

Well, many folks have been screaming "use more tight end" for years around here. Looks like we finally have one with some skills and an OC who can figure out ways to get him involved and a QB who can find him on the field.

So far, so good.

That TD he had was epic. Sheds the guy then walked into the end zone. I want to see even more targets to the guy but the way JSN is playing it's hard to spread it around more, he's got more yards than AJ, Kupp and Horton combined.

He was my unofficial adopt-a-rookie 2 years ago. Favorite pick of the draft.

"Complete Tight End"...." If you ask me to go out there and catch 10 passes a game, I'll go do that. If you ask me to man up the C Gap and go be physical. I'll go do that....I can be whatever I want to be in this league."-AJ Barner

I've been saying since his rookie year, he could be the best TE in the league. The tenacity and willingness to fight for extra yards, the willingness and skill to block, good hands, great size and separation speed. It's all there. We just have to stop doing stupid crap like subbing your QB1 who's on fire, for your 3rd string rookie so he can potentially run an option. Dumbest situational play calling blunder since russ threw the pick in the SB.

I also enjoyed his TD celly except he then punted the ball which made me think the Refs would've thrown a flag there but thankfully they weren't in doosh-mode quite yet.

This franchise has had players at almost every position that have become all pros, ring of honor, HOF,…etc. we’ve been privy to some really great all time players. What we’ve never really had is that guy at TE. Sure, there have been some good TEs suit up and play some good football. But we haven’t had a Largent, or a Tez, or a Jones, a Wagner…
Could Barner be the guy that breaks through??

The team is leading the league in EPA when 12 personnel is utilized. Translation: they are good at it.
