So at 32, with multiple coordinators that have never elevated him, geno is not at his peak and still has his greatest accomplishments ahead of him… go raiders. Let’s loot
Which coordinator that he has had was capable of elevating his play? He credited working behind Manning and Rivers with sharpening his process and ability as a player. But he was never going to get a shot to actually replace either of them. And it was Manning in NY who basically said as much - that Geno got a raw deal when he actually did get a chance to start.
Lets not pretend that Waldron and Grubb were actually capable of elevating anything more than a coffee mug at breakfast. Waldron was inept and Grubbs stint has been summarily described as QB unfriendly in how stupidly predictable the passing concept were, how non existent the run game was, and how the net result was a scheme that made the QBS job HARDER, not easier.
Its funny. Geno comes here and is basically run out of town on .NET before he even played a snap. But then, with little run game, less protection, and no defense, he plays well enough to garner MVP talk, and he did all of the with WALDRON. A guy who cant even get a job as coordinator.
Now, Sam comes here after having started in NY, (like Geno), having floundered every he went, and then landing in a spot with a GREAT coordinator who was UNDOUBTEDLY responsible for his success, ok run game, decent line and defense and he is seen as potentially a great get... as good as Geno ??
Talk about a double standard.
But its heaven sent. because now after 4 years of residual hurt over Russ being replaced by Geno and Geno being the whipping boy for all things wrong with the offense and the reason we cant 'elevate', we have a guy who has walked a similar line as Smith, who gets all of the acclaim and none of the arrows. He is stepping into a better team that wont rely on him doing near what Geno did. Lets see how it goes. Finally, apples to apples.
