Kris Richard is my favorite long term prospect for DC, but I don't think he's ready yet.

If by some chance he takes this gig, look for a promotion from within. The favorite IMO would be DL coach Travis Jones, who has the most NFL coaching experience, but don't overlook ken Norton or Rocky Seto.
Couldn't agree less. Travis Jones is not coordinator material, he's a pure position coach who was only an assistant DL coach until this season when he came to Seattle (and got a lot of help with the DL from Quinn). Similarly, Norton is a pure position coach who doesn't aspire to be a coordinator. Kris Richard is being groomed for if/when Quinn becomes a HC.

On the subject of Quinn, he's not ready to be a HC yet. This was his first and only season as a DC at the NFL level, and he acquired an already elite defense which is ultimately led by Pete Carroll. He needs at least another year or two (or more) in this type of role before he's ready to lead an entire NFL team.

"Quinn originally joined Seattle on January 12, 2009, after spending the previous six years coaching the defensive lines for the San Francisco 49ers (2003-04), Miami Dolphins (2005-06) and the New York Jets (2007-08). He began his NFL coaching career in San Francisco as their defensive quality control coach in 2001 before moving to the defensive line."

He's got an impressive resume... I hope we don't lose him tbh

everyone was worried when Bradley left and we are better this year.

Pete is the real mastermind behind the defense.

Yeah, but with the departure of Bradley, going to soft zone all the damned time at the end of games left with him. It's hard to imagine our defense being much better than this year's. Of course there is always room for improvement, but I'd be satisfied long-term with Quinn based on the defense this year.

If we lose Quinn, I have faith that Papa Pete will replace him with someone good; but I hope we don't have to find out.

I HATE how teams are allowed to start coach negotiations before the playoffs are over. It's a major distraction to the players and the coaches in the playoffs.

I don't see Quinn being serious about taking that HQ job with the Browns. That is just not a sound business move for him if he is truly serious about being a HFL head coach some day.

He needs to get one or two more years in as DQ and wait for a good job with a stable organization that will give him the time and tools to build a team for the long term. That isn't the situation with the Browns at all.

I thought teams were prohibited from interviewing a coach under contract until after the team's season was over. Is that not the case?

The entire League needs to understand that the Seattle Defense wasn't Gus Bradley, and isn't Dan Quinn.

If Quinn gets the job, he and Gus should be giving Pete a portion of their paychecks.

I like Quinn, but it's not the end of this defense if he leaves. The defense is Pete's baby, he only allows these other guys to play with his toys.

I'd be more concerned about losing Tom Cable. Hopefully he stays with the team for as long as Pete and Schneider are here. That's the nucleus of what our team has become.

You have to ask for permission and if the other team says it's okay, then it's okay. If they say no, then it's prohibited.

Why would Quinn take this job knowing he'd be on a 1 year leash?

I think he's smarter than that and stays in Seattle, wins a couple of Super Bowls, and then has his choice of going to any number of teams a few years from now.

Why would anyone in their right mind walk into that meat grinder? Hire a new coach and give him <1yr before you fire him and try to attract some new Schlub to take over the mess you created. Unless of course there were extenuating circumstances.

I agree with most but I actually think its Seto up first. They are all trying to move up as far as I know. One could assume Norton just likes coaching LB's given how many years he's done it and his success and never moving up.

I went to several preseason practices this year and Seto seemed to be everywhere Pete wasn't while position coaches stayed with their groups including Quinn with the DL. Seto is also the "passing game coordinator." He's also been a coordinator before. I agree that Rishard will get his shot and I fully expect he succeeds.

As far as Quinn don't know the guy but he strikes me as a coordinaor type.

They gave Chudzinski one year and someone else's QB and then fired him because he didn't do any better than any of his predecessors. The Browns next HC will be their fifth since 2008.
Whatever they tell Dan Quinn in his interview about his long term prospects will be BS, the first time he has a losing season he'll be gone.

Which of course will be the next one. I don't think Quinn will willingly walk into that cluster.

Once Josh McDaniels interviews for the Browns job, again, I'll have a helluva time thinking someone else gets it

Dan Quinn and Kris Richards are the two coaches I least want us to lose. Quinn's earmarks are all over this defense and he is as much the reason for our historically good defense, as Pete is, in my opinion.

@RapSheet: And the #Vikings get on the board… #Seahawks DC Dan Quinn will interview there, too.

Now that's a place we should be concerned about.

No idea what the Vikings will do.

It looks like we need to get used to the idea of this cat not being around after the season is done. I was always big on Quinn and would of preferred him to be our DC over Gus for all those years. He was an upgrade in many fans eyes. This guy is going to be a smoking hot commodity. wherever this guy lands, I just hope it is in a positive situation where he will be allowed to grow and put the team together. AKA somewhere not in Cleveland or a team owned by the clown of the NFL Circus Daniel Snyder.
