Who gives a sh!t it’s still funny and very tellingMajor asterisk there with the extra game though.
I want to see #3 doing the "intro" speech for Richard Sherman's induction into the Hall of Fame.
There used to be You Tube of the only game the 85 Bears lost and it was to Dan Marino,Good point about different eras when making statistical comparisons between QB's. For instance, the Chicago Bears defense of the 1980's (one of the all time great D's) would virtually be illegal under today's rules. They wreaked havoc on opposing QB's, and knocking QB's out of games was a fairly routine occurrence at their peak.
Lots of things were different back then. Although quarterbacks have always been a critical component, offenses weren't as quarterback centric. Running backs played all 3 downs. Bump and run was legal. Pass blocking for an offensive lineman was an afterthought. No such thing as 3 or 4 wide receiver sets. More so than any other professional sport, football has changed radically from what it was in the past. There used to be You Tube of the only game the 85 Bears lost and it was to Dan Marino,
He was picking them apart with quick passes..Fun to watch
Put Me3 in 80's-He'd be fun till he got killed going off script by the D or Knox.
Russell's contemporaries are players like Brady, Brees, Rothlisberger, and Rodgers.
Start a poll. Not to hijack the thread, but I'd be curios to know how people would lean if they could vote only one player in for the HOF - Beastmode or Russ. If you took into consideration each players career numbers and impact on this team and its ultimate success, which would get the nod if you could only let one in.
I agree. Russell's draft class, ie Andrew Luck and RG3, and Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton, chosen a year ahead of Russ, have for one reason or another taken themselves out of any possible HOF consideration, so he's essentially in a class by himself, which would be to his advantage.Russell is a bridge player between the older generation of Brady, Rodgers, and Brees, and the younger generation of Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, etc.
He won't be able to hold his own against either, in the running for a jacket. The younger generation will blow away most of his stats, largely due to having a larger portion of their careers spent in the QB friendly environment. The older generation have more accomplishments.
His best hope for an induction is that there is a lull year or two where the older candidates have already been picked over, but the younger generation is not yet eligible. He can be the shining star in a lackluster class. Unfortunately for him, these will be the years that the selection committee will be looking more towards those who have been overlooked, and those who are worthy of induction, despite playing "less valuable" roles (Kickers etc)
Beastmode all day.Not to hijack the thread, but I'd be curios to know how people would lean if they could vote only one player in for the HOF - Beastmode or Russ. I agree. Beast mode defined that era of Seahawk football, a smash mouth, take no prisoners attitude. He was the heart and soul of our team.Beastmode all day.
IMO Russell doesn't need multiple prolific seasons to get his gold jacket, at least not with how low the HOF bar has been set recently (see Kenny Stabler). Russ already has one ring with some decent but not gaudy career numbers, and as another poster pointed out, there's no other QB's in his age range that would form his competition. IMO he has one more SB run that yields a Lombardi/SB MVP and he's in.No unless he turns it around with a couple more prolific seasons and playoff runs. He will need to appear as a Superstar again in some big games to even consider it.
That being said, the amount of manufactured Russ hate here is about as corny as his persona. People here and on sports radio act like the guy was a bum his last season in Seattle. Sure he was hurt a few games - and still threw for 25 TDs to 6 picks, a 103 rating and a slightly higher completion percentage than his career average.
another SB ring on a different team would certainly cement it IMHO. My "multiple prolific seasons" assumes no more superbowls simply because the odds are stacked against pretty much everyone trying to win the next few years. I was simply suggesting a more realistic route back to the HoF, so barring another Lombardi I think he's gotta have a couple more good years.IMO Russell doesn't need multiple prolific seasons to get his gold jacket, at least not with how low the HOF bar has been set recently (see Kenny Stabler). But I agree completely with your take on the hate. Sometimes we let our emotions reshape our perception of history.
