As the head of the Seahawks, a billion-dollar enterprise, Jody won't do anything without plan b, c, d in place, and backup ready to step in. In this case, she has either gotten understanding from Schneider that he will stay when she fires Pete to guarantee stability and continuity, or, she acted on hint-hint nudge-nudge from Schneider, we shall never know. What we do know? She won't act without some input from Schneider.

Similarly, Schneider had a 'something' with Darnold before getting rid of Geno. He will look like an idiot, and put the franchise in harm's way if he doesn't have a plan in place, with a plan b as backup. Except on dot net, Schneider blessed Geno with a 45 mil contract, only to be surprised by the ungrateful idiot to turn it down, out of kindness, Schneider traded Geno within a day and signed Darnold a couple of days later at a discount. I love dot net because I like how some folks' minds work.

I love Pete. But this isn't the first instance of him spinning things to protect his own ego. I have no doubt that this is the thing Pete told himself to end up feeling good abou the change, but he was fired. Full stop.

It's not the point whether it was in the contract or not. The point was whether he had the most influence in previous drafts instead of the GM and it appears he did. People were blaming JS for Pete's failures.

I hate to be the guy who does this but I'm going to do it anyway. So many of the Pete apologists laughed at the idea that Pete had a lot of control over the draft process and roster construction but this confirms it. I got killed for saying Pete hindered John at times. Those guys are strangely absent now but whatever. I do love Pete but this is much different than what he said right after getting fired and not sure what to believe here.

I wrote about it earlier but Bumpus started to talk on the radio recently about how its known that Pete messed up a couple of draft picks (my guess is the Collier one for sure) and went against John and the scouting department but they said he wasn't going to talk about it. Cowherd said the same thing a couple years ago and people went nuts. I think both are much more believable after hearing this. It's also fitting that the drafting has been better the past couple of years after some horrible draft classes.

Pete early one was the perfect fit to win a SB and build that team. I still argue he should've been fired years earlier when it was obvious he wasn't a great fit anymore.

Not me there were rumors around the team it was Pete going against the scouting department at John at times and forcing some questionable picks. I fully believe it now.

3 deadly wounds.
1) Carroll meddling in John's GM duties (free agency/draft).
2) JS OLine lazy narrative, devaluing IOL mindset.
3) SB 49 non Lynch run.

That's how you derail a potential dynasty.
Bringing in MM & crew is how you rebuild one.

I think Pete was the one pushing for all the trades for troubled players too. It fits his personality.
I have always felt and it was also reported that it was Pete who wanted Jamal Adams. That was the breaking point for me.
Pete was far more win now than win forever with his constantly borrowing against the future for his last missing piece.
I hope we never trade for a guy pushing his way out again. Just don't do it. If they are a Malcontent and all about the money there they will be the same here.

2- Seattle traded for him without negotiating a new contract as part of the trade requirement. This gave Adams and his agent a blank check as Seattle had to pretty much pay whatever they wanted or have massive egg on their face having given up two first round picks. They had to pay him a King’s ransom or watch him go into free agency the next year.

3- trading for a very good player who is asking for a new contract almost never works out for the team trading for him. Not only do they have to give up a lot of capital to get him, they now must also pay him a ton of money. This tactic has been proven over and over and over again to almost never work out for the team trading for that player.

Honestly, it was amateur hour for the Seahawks management conducting this trade.

I read that Pete asked for before signing on Seahawks and was given the final say on football matters by ownership; officially, he was the executive VP of football operations. Hierarchy-wise, the GM and HC report to the VP of football operations.

Post Wilson trade, some have rumored that John gained more power, or even power over all personnel matters. Needless to say, we have no official information.

I read that Quandre Diggs started the idea of pairing him with Adams. I assume that he voiced it to Pete, and somehow Pete bought into the idea. Once Pete wanted Adams, the rest's quite unknown, how we ended up investing so much draft capital and not getting a new contract in place before the trade.
