Someone asked Mike at his season ending presser today if any in-house candidates are under consideration for the OC job. His response: "right now, no"

I guess that will quiet the Peetz talk.

Wow that's very interesting! I'm in the camp that thought it would likely be Peetz, but apparently not. Things can and often do change in the NFL, but that's not exactly a ringing endorsement by MM.

I think this is good news as I also want an experienced OC this time.

We'll likely have to gamble a bit on this hire, as it's a tough sell for the more in-demand candidates or the ones with established records of success. They'd be getting a middle-of-the-road, turnover-prone QB who will most likely be the third or fourth oldest starting QB in the league next season, and will need to be replaced within the next year or two with no good draft capital or tradable pieces to get that done, a mediocre offensive line, and there could very well be trepidation about taking a position where the last man to hold it got fired after just one season.

It will almost definitely be someone very unproven. Hopefully we gamble better on this try.

This year is really a “testing” period for Mac just to see what he has. The actual build in “Mac’s image” will be this off season.

Gotta remember 90 percent of these players played under Carroll.

And if they were acquired by this latest staff, some of the players (linebackers) were moved the same year.

Even JS is learning about Mac and how Mac wants to operate. We gotta see how this off season plays out and what draft picks are coming to the team. With Grubb being dismissed, it sends a message to the other coaches, either get in line with Mac or you will be dismissed.

I still don’t know how many current players actually “fit” both offensively and defensively with what Mac wants to do and/or if Mac sees the current crop of players as nothing he can work with.

This off season should shed some more light on how much Mac is willing to part ways with things that don’t align with “his vision.”

Sounds like Mike is just getting started with how he really wants to do things.
Well, it took Pete 3 years to get us on a winning track. Certainly, Mike walked into a much better situation vis-a-vis existing talent on the team, so it should come quicker. Hell Mike's first year is much better than Pete's first year. I have to believe he saw that coming in and felt like this was a winning place to move to. The future is bright. 😎

Eric Bieniemy was just hired as a "consultant" by the Huskies. I wonder if the Seahawks look to him as a potential OC candidate. He had success with the Chiefs. Does he fit what Mike M is seeking from an offense?
No. He didn’t have success with the chiefs, other than doing what Reid told him to do. With the Redskins he was pass happy, just like Grubb. And UCLA fired him after a year

I know someone from the Giants system is not going to excite people but considering they asked for permission to talk to Mike Fafka and got blocked last year would they try again this year?

Chip Kelly? Didn't we consider him last off-season? Wants back in the NFL apparently. Has the Ohio State offense looking good.

He'd be friggin' perfect for us.

Knows how to run it, proven track record of elevating QB play (Foles 27TD/2INT season for instance), good with scheming his OL out of trouble, can truly be a "Head Coach of the offense," and as experienced of a playcaller as you'll find.

We should've hired him last cycle.

I don't think that Chip is on the list of interviewees.

They'll be getting a solid QB who, no matter how much you like or dislike him, has at most a few more years of playing. The new OC will be involved in choosing and developing the next starting QB. That's attractive.

Not everyone gets to be the next OC of the chiefs or bengals. Those jobs tend not to be open. I think Seattle is a very attractive job.
