Why are we bringing color into this discussion? I just want the best candidate available. I don't care if they're white, black, purple, green........ wait. With everything that's been going on in our skies lately, green might actually be a possibility. Would we get credit for a minority hire in that situation? :alien:😂
Why? The NFL's "Rooney Rule" brings "color" directly into the discussion with specific rules NFL teams must follow. Per Wikipedia: "The (Rooney Rule) first actual hiring quota was established before the 2022 season, mandating that at least one member of each team's offensive coaching staff must be either an ethnic minority or a woman." See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooney_Rule

Eric Bienemy has been pushed on NFL teams, and team after team has interviewed him and chosen not to hire him. They have their reasons, but pretty sure their reasons for not hiring him have little or nothing to do with color.

I did find that Jim Caldwell is an example of a black OC who has had notable success in the NFL, as well as being a black head coach who was 8 games above .500 when the team (Lions) fired him.

Also, the nasty, race-baiting media does what they do. The same media that asked Notre Dame Head Coach Marcus Freeman how it felt to be the first black head coach in the FBS National Championship. Freeman then reminded them he is half Asian. (His mother is South Korean) Freeman then continued on to give a great lesson on his great leadership mindset with his following comments.

Just as you and most reasonable people, I don't care if the Seahawks hire an OC who is black, yellow, green, or purple. I just want them to get someone who is actually GOOD at the NFL level. And please NOT Eric Bienemy, unless JS/MMac truly feel he is the best choice, without regard to color.

It's going to be Peetz. Would like Pederson, but he's most likely going to retire. McCown and Engstrand are interesting, but if I had to bet, I'd put my money on it being Peetz.
I agree, everything I have heard from people in the know seem to suggest it sounds like Peetz is the man.

He's the OC in Philly. Would be a lateral move. Actually a demotion when you consider their o line versus ours. 😂

This is why I would like to target Jeff Stoutland. We all know our line needs fixed and we need to improve the run game. I think he can do both relatively quickly.

Here are two names I'd like to bring up:

Aaron Kromer (Bills OL coach)

The Seahawkers podcast brought his name up. He's had a lot of success as an OL coach, and when he was the Bears OC they finished second in scoring offense.

James Urban (Penn St. Offensive analyst)

You might be wondering why I bring up his name, considering he's offensive analyst for Penn St. currently. The reason I bring his name up is simply because he was the QB coach in Baltimore when Lamar Jackson was drafted, and he's also been on Andy Reid's staff back in Philly.

Chip Kelly was a consideration last season, I suspect they'd consider it again.
I think Kelly being brought up was just the no stone unturned considering Seattle at that point was scrapping the bottom of the barrel when it came to OC options. This year, I suspect they'll go with Peetz, but at the very least they're gonna see how the Wildcard plays out, maybe wait through the Divisional Round before they start asking to interview talented position coaches to become OC.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to get an experienced NFL play caller in here. Enough of this first timer BS learning on the job. I don't care who they coached under if they haven't actually called plays. My hope is that the Steelers get their asses handed to them this weekend and Tomlin finally steps aside. Then we can get Arthur Smith, which was the plan all along.

Just out of curiosity what about Aurther Smith has looked good in the last 4 years?

Completely agreed. I think a former OC who failed at HC is probably the best choice. I get why you want to keep trying someone new, every team wants the next Sean McVay or Mike McDaniel calling their offense, but I'd just like to see what this offense could look like with someone who is just flat out comfortable calling an offense.

No more experiments, let's get a dude who's done this dance a couple of times. (My vote is for Doug Pederson as of now.)

He did great as the OC of the Titans. He likes to pound the rock, which is exactly what we need and what I assume MM is looking for. He was looking pretty good with the Steelers this year until Mr. limited came back down to Earth. Some people must still think highly of him because apparently he has a couple head coaching interviews lined up. So it's probably a moot point anyway.

To be fair, prime Derrick Henry will make any OC good as long as you just have the QB get it to him.

The Packers are extremely balanced so I wouldn't worry about him throwing the ball all over the place.

Ben Johnson who might be one of the best play callers in the league also was a passing game coordinator that runs the ball well and never called plays before he got the OC job in Detroit in 2022.
It was a reference to Waldron. I wouldn't want to give someone else's assistant coach the keys to the offense and end upaking the same mistake. Ben Johnson was with the Lions as an offensive quality control coach, tight ends coach, and then passing game coordinator before he was promoted.

Guys on the radio, think with Geno, bad OL and other factors there won't be any decent OC that will come here. We'd have to rely on rebounds like Waldren etc.
