Well, Schottenheimer might come available -- Mike McCarthy might be on the hot seat. I wouldn't mind seeing him back, if anything the man knows how to establish a running game.

Reich would be my number one choice. It may take Reich a long time before he's offered another HC gig, he could be a stable force in Seattle for awhile.

Either way, I think Seattle should go with a veteran NFL presence at OC. We need more experience in our coaching staff.

While I agree that the "I told you so" posts can be too much, I have no issue with giving it back to someone if they tell me how "wrong" I am, only to have the thing I predicted come to fruition. Especially when I back it up with reasons for why I think it will happen.
But that didnā€™t happen here and I havenā€™t seen it happen at all on here in regards to Grubb. Literally every comment was ā€œI think he gets a second year but who knowsā€

Sure if youā€™ve been having some back and forth with a guy and itā€™s in good fun then I think itā€™s fair and Iā€™ve done it. I just donā€™t think thatā€™s the case on the Grubb situation.

Do we really want another passing game coordinator with no play calling experience?
The Packers are extremely balanced so I wouldn't worry about him throwing the ball all over the place.

Ben Johnson who might be one of the best play callers in the league also was a passing game coordinator that runs the ball well and never called plays before he got the OC job in Detroit in 2022.

For the better coaches ( or any good OC candidates), the Seahawks will likely be at the bottom of the list.

We have an aging QB that puts up #s between the 20s but lacks vision and makes poor decisions, especially in the RZ. The other QBs we have likely wouldn't start in the CFL.
Our OL is one of the worst in the league.
We have a garbage tier RB room.
And we have a defensive-minded HC.

Pretty unattractive option, if you have other teams vying for you too. For a young and hungry coach that normally wouldn't get an OC shot yet? Might be worth it. But there isn't much upside to the roster now, and likely more downside on the way as our starting QB ages.

Hard pass. He got "credit" for things where he was "involved" and IMO rode Andy Reid/Patrick Mahomes' coattails rather than being responsible for the successes. To me it seemed like Bienemy has been being pushed on teams because he has the right pigmentation. There are plenty of actually good coaches and coordinators who CLEARLY WERE the architects of their own success and also have the right skin tone. Vance Joseph, Mike Tomlin, Brian Flores, etc. Now two of those guys are DCs and one is a HC. Surely there must be several good candidates for OC as well if pigmentation is primary consideration, I just don't know who they are, but Bienemy isn't a choice for me based on track record, merit and temperament and ability to connect with a broad range of players.

Who are the OCs of color that NFL teams should be looking at, other than Bienemy?
Why are we bringing color into this discussion? I just want the best candidate available. I don't care if they're white, black, purple, green........ wait. With everything that's been going on in our skies lately, green might actually be a possibility. Would we get credit for a minority hire in that situation? :alien:šŸ˜‚

A thought just came to me, Chip Kelly has also been vying for an NFL OC position. He's had success in the NFL with his offenses and he's recently taken a more hard nose approach with his offenses. His issues before was his usage of hurry up to the detriment of his defenses. That hasn't been him for awhile.

I think there is a decent chance it ends up being Jake Peetz because he's been in the NFL for awhile. He's never called games but he has spent time under McVay and doing various things in the NFL. That's pretty important. MacDonald knows him and how he operates.

Another name to consider is Marcus Brady. He has O.C experience with the Colts. He spent this past season as the passing game coordinator for...Jim Harbaugh. The Harbaugh connection is there. I do think Macdonald wants his team/offense playing more like the Harbaugh led teams. That starts with establishing the run. The 2021 Colts were top 5 in almost every running statistic and was bottom 5 in almost every passing statistic. Oddly...Carson Wentz had one of his more efficient seasons as a starter. Lower yardage but high TDs. Pretty much exactly how the Harbaughs want to play. They did have Jonathon Taylor and they did have 2 pro-bowl linemen in Quentin Nelson and Ryan Kelly. However, it wasn't like their O-Line was flawless. They still ran the heck out of the ball. Of course 2022 was a crap show. Matt Ryan broke down. Taylor got injured and they started a rookie LT. Their whole staff was let go.

We have an owner with deep pockets and there's no salary cap for coaches. Also, the owner is pretty hands off.

We have an experienced QB with a good arm and rapport with his receivers. Any OC worth his salt is going to look at video and figure that Geno won't have the same problems in HIS offense.

Our O-line improved, and we have an offseason to add a couple of pieces to it. I bet he could get a commitment to add a couple of players this offseason. Also, another OC may look at film and see problems with the scheme that he thinks he can resolve.

Garbage RB room? Are you trolling? Walker is considered quite talented and I'd argue that Charbonnet is a better every down back, and Mcintosh showed show great ability in limited opportunities. I'd consider the RB room one of the strengths of the offense.

Add on the WR room, where we have a 100 catch up and coming receiver, and one of the fastest threats in the NFL.

A defensive minded HC means that he'll leave the offense to the OC (with specific expectations) rather than meddling in it constantly. That's a positive. Way better than being OC for Reid or LaFleur where you don't get to call plays.

Frankly, if a candidate doesn't look at the offense and think that he'll be the difference maker that gets it back on track, then I don't want him.

We might perhaps not be the TOP option if a coach had his pick of any team in the league.....but among teams that are looking for an OC this offseason I would consider Seattle a very desirable spot.

He is not to be disturbed right now. Bring this up again in two weeks.

Sorry, not every comment. Toffee has been demanding his dismissal for over five weeks with threads and posts.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to get an experienced NFL play caller in here. Enough of this first timer BS learning on the job. I don't care who they coached under if they haven't actually called plays. My hope is that the Steelers get their asses handed to them this weekend and Tomlin finally steps aside. Then we can get Arthur Smith, which was the plan all along.

Except for at HC. Ours did just fine.
Yep, but he's calling the plays on D which he was successful at coming into the job and fortunately for us also seems to be a great leader of men. This is why Peetz scares me. No experience as an NFL play caller. Give me someone like Pederson or Arthur Smith. PLEASE. Could we poach someone like Nagy since he's not calling the plays in KC, but would be here?

It seems like the same path followed when Shane Waldron was chosen as OC. Don't want to walk down that road again.
