I kept reading the title as "We need to fart disaster" I think that was one of Mark Schlereth's (Stinks') tactics when he played in the NFL.

For most fans, the televised product is designed to appeal and play on human emotion. Knee jerk reactions are the norm in the game day forum. That bleeds into the main forum reflecting a shallow understanding of how and why a game unfolds as it does. The over reliance on stats and rankings verify that most of the audience has little depth of understanding of the televised broadcast beyond individual likes and dislikes Speak primarily about emotional impressions and experience with team and opponent outcomes. And then arguing about it. The greater the argument .... the longer the thread. I suspect that is what the majority of posters enjoy doing.

The students of the Game forum came into being for those interested in greater depth of understanding of a game and it's participants. For those who want to peel the onion, so to speak, as to the process of an unfolding game. It's visited by a much smaller population with little apparent interest in discussion. That's ok by me. It's just the way it is. There are, after all, coaching forums and podcasts as alternatives.

The best in more emotional excitement is on the way.

Enjoy

I thought that having the 'students of the game ' thread would alleviate some of the back and forth around how a fan should 'fan', but until folks who want to talk more about the xs and os within a given game start posting their thoughts there, it seems any attempt to have such a conversation about it in the general Seahawks thread will devolve into what is happening here.

I don't think there is a single person on this board who isnt thrilled the Hawks are where they are right now or that we have blown out our last 2 opponents.

I would also venture to say that there aren't very many fans who think all is great with the team (our offense) and as good as we have been, that at any given match against a formidable opponent, that things could just go off the rails and all the potential we have with this defense get squandered. I mean, it isnt being a debbie downer about our slow starts, poor finishes and propensity to turn it over in big moments when thise flaws are literally THE asterisk hanging over the team in the national media.

There is nothing wrong with making the observation that how we started on Sunday is not something we can afford to make a habit. In our first loss against the 9ers we scored 10 first half points. We only added 3 after the half. In our loss against the Rams, we scored 9 first half points. Both the Rams and 9ers sport solid offenses and defenses. We face both of those teams again. Against the Vikings, we managed 6 points by the offense before half. It would be one thing if there were unique circumstances that resulted in the lack of points, but it was simply that we had no rhythm, no identity and were playing off of our back foot the entire time. That just cant happen everytime we face a really good defense. I mean, its not like we looked like world beaters against Tennessee either.

So if you wanna just throw logical observation to the wind and ignore the warning signs (the way many did in the leadup to the Rams game) and feel you are the model, level-headed, 'appreciative fan', that's cool. But this team has YET to show it can matchup and beat a solid team that has balance on both sides of the ball. We are 0-3 this year against teams who have won a lot more of their games than they have lost. We have dominated (on offense) either teams who are sub-par, or who might be formidable on one side of the ball, but not the other.

The OP is right. Cant keep happening. I for one want to CONTINUE to enjoy the season for as long as possible and not just blissfully think everything is cool because the W-L record says so or because we got a fat Point Diff off of lesser opponents. It would be great to see us look like a championship team for 4 qtrs. I would much rather have that and win by 7 than look like an imposter for half a game but then win by 30. You cant take quarters off come playoff time and no playoff caliber team is going to give you the ball 4 times in a half so that you can run up the score or get back into a game.
Well said.
