Need to hit Shaheed deep

Since coming in via trade, Shaheed has defintely made his mark on special teams and with some called runs, but his impact as a deep threat has yet to be seen. Perhaps they were keeping packages for the playoffs, but my guess is that the 49ers sell out vs the run and we have to be able to take the top off the D. I know this goes against ball control philosophy, but this might be something to focus on and I would love to see a Shaheed coming out party

I believe that Macdonald and Kubiak, like most coaches, have kept a few plays in reserve to be used in the playoffs. We've already seen how versatile Shaheed is. I think that they'll get him more involved in the offense. At the very least, if Kupp and Shaheed have some success early, the 49ers will have to take some attention off of JSN.

Slow developing plays like getting Shaheed deep inevitably lead to QB sacks... even by the Whiners.

I rather see Sam take a shorter drop back and deliver the ball cleanly to JSN/Kupp/Barner/Shaheed... and thereby keep the chains moving... and in Hank Stamm's vintage vernacular.... 'matriculate' right down the field'. LOL

if SF keep 2 deep safeties then I doubt we see these deep shots. However, if they start run blitzing or bring one of those 2 safeties down into the box consistently then potentially. The gameplan might be similar though which is ball control to keep the defense fully fresh (run short pass screen on repeat)

It'd be sick to hit him deep for 50 yards in the air, a 65-yard TD, on the first offensive play of the game for us. I LOVE it when we send an instant message like that, haha.
Agreed. And, a very Al Davis move.

Agreed, I think the whiners know it’s a losing position to drop 1 and go single high and so they’ll take the slow bleed of 170+ rushing yards over 2-3 deep 40+ yard completions… but who knows? They might go ‘that didn’t work at all 2 weeks ago’ and gamble on stopping the run.

Either way we have a hell of a counter for however they want to play us.

If Pete was still coaching this team, I would be a hell of a lot more nervous. Stubborn isn't gonna' get you thru the playoffs.

Not saying I'm not nervous, I absolutely am.

Darnold was leading the league in Yards per Pass attempt until week 12 or so. Now #2.

I don't disagree to this, but I also think we need to try at least a couple of long throws to loosen things up.

If Warner is back, it'll be a bit harder to run the ball.

No doubt, gotta let it fly a couple times. IF it's an overthrow or incompletion, so be it. That needs to be in their minds.

I'd settle for returning the opening kickoff for a TD
How about we split it? We return opening kickoff for a TD, force their first offense to a 3-and-out, then our first play on offense, the TD I proposed happens?

I would straight-up be giggling like a school girl if this transpired.

Me reading titles without context.

On topic though, I'd love to see them air it out to Sheed to drive the nail in the coffin this weekend.

Although I have questions about Arroyo's route running, there is no question that he is a speedster. I would like to see a couple of plays with Shaheed and Arroyo both going deep.

I agree. I've been waiting to see more deep posts, seams and flag routes for him against cover two, with a shallow post or cross with kupp or JSN. It's so hard to defend when you have guys that can burn man or find a soft spot in the zone like jsn and kupp do so well, meanwhile you're sending a burner deep to draw safety help.

We either haven't seen this or if they do run it, they either don't leave a blocker in for sam or the blocker leaks too quick. The blocker needs to hold on longer to allow the routes to develop but Zach especially likes to slip out too soon and it often leads to a check down, pressure or sack.
