Normally I'd say the longer they are withholding information the worse the situation is (and still may be the case), but there are hipaa laws they have to abide by.

Totally agree. In this day in age the fact it happened 2 weeks ago and we haven't heard or seen anything is amazing. The fact he's in seattle and at team facility and we still haven't seen anything is terrible news.

This kids done before he ever started. Such a dumb dumb dumb thing to do. Man you have such a short window to earn your millions as an nfl player. Dumb.

The thing is, if he was done for certain, the team would have him on the NFI Reserve list which would make him ineligible to play this season. Everything points to him being on the NFI/Active list which means they expect him to play but have no idea when.

Do you know if they are able to move him from Active to Reserved once the season starts? Or would he had to have been put on Reserved from the beginning?

he can be moved to reserve at anytime...it would just mean the end of this season. NFI reserve is similar to IR except in this instance he wouldn't be eligible to come off the list and if the team chooses they can withhold payments since the injury happened outside of football. Everything now is just pure speculation though.

Special request (well maybe not special). This thread is now 5 pages long with lots of speculation. Once there is actual, confirmed news, can we get a separate thread so we don't have to scour through these pages looking to see if there is anything new?

I think that's a fine idea....I still think we'll be stuck with speculation for awhile though.

Sounds like it might be career threatening.

Michael Bennett is talking about hoping Malik McDowell's quality of life and brain aren't affected long term by ATV accident

I would not use a generic statement from Bennett as a sign it may be career threatening myself.

I heard that and did not take that from his statement at all. The same statement could be made from any concussion. Seeing the hamburger face he likely has only adds to peoples speculation IMO.

my bad, this was for Seymour

Nobody answered my question from yesterday. How is Malik's face? Is it damaged?

AFAIK his face hasn't been seen publicly...and those that have seen him aren't talking. So, to answer your question, we don't know the answer to your question

This sucks. I was/am really looking fwd to him getting on the field. All the time passing with no word at all is spooky. Got my mind picturing some scaaaaaaaary possibilities.

I hope he is gonna be OK.

Can you imagine having to get used to a totally strange face for the rest of your life in the mirror? Even like some monster staring back.

Why in the world would there be silence from all camps for so long? Is there any precedence for this?

Get well soon Malik.

The way this is being treated there's no doubt this is a SERIOUS injury. Pete said time missed will be lengthy. I think he red shirts and another trade down then reach could very well be another mistake. Who knows if the dude will be the same player he was at all. Now this is worst case but my God the gag order on this injury speaks volumes. Regardless he isn't playing in game one that's all but a given at this point and it seems likely he's out for at least the first 4 games and probably the season.

Sounds like Malik messed up his face pretty bad. Probably not going to be the most handsome gentlemen anymore. I think this would be more of a mental hurdle than anything else. However unlike some of you, I'm not throwing in the towel on this kid yet. He might have to sit this year out but no reason why he cant be the player we all hoped he could be in the future.

We wanted him for this year.
As these vets get older and older, Avril and Bennett come to mind, out window of opp is closing.

Obviously we wanted him for this year, but accidents happen and you move on. The season isn't ruined because a rookie wont be playing his first year. Stop worrying about the window closing while its open, enjoy the ride man.

Wow. Closing in on a week since this broke and we don't know anything more than we knew in the 1st 24 hours. Pretty crazy.

I can't ever recall a training camp story so hushed up like this one. The more quiet they are, the more the mystery grows. While it's quite likely they want a full analysis and second opinions, HIPPA issues and the contract itself to be addressed, it's still so unusual. I'm really surprised one of the local Michigan papers didn’t have a scoop when the wreck first occurred.

At this point, I am starting to feel like he may have injured his eye i.e. vision loss along with the other injuries. That is why the team doesn't know if he can play with vision loss or can't play at all.

This is my concern as well. Most NFL players with orbital fractures have some sort of temporary vision change. Many have permanent changes. The ones who never made it back did so, primarily, because of permanent vision impairment that they couldn't overcome.
