He specifically mentioned Kearse, and then declined to talk about the rest of the receivers because he does not want any listening GMs to know about them. I took this to be specifically three guys, Harper, Williams, Bates.
Since I suspect we will only carry 6 on the roster, max, they will have to get creative if they do not want any of these guys snagged by another team. Right now, it is Tate, Harvin, Baldwin, Rice, Kearse, and then the other 3.

He said nice things about both backup QBs, but I really got the idea Tarvaris has the inside over Quinn.

Said this is Russell Wilson's team. Next I assume he takes over the world.

Thanks for reporting on that. I have to wonder if we'll see another team trade us a pick for one of those receiver. Something low level. Like a second or late first. That would be the most JS move ever.

I'd like to see Williams and Harper make the team. Both bring different size profiles. Also I think Harper has a higher ceiling than Kearse, I think Bates could be stashed on the PS.

Based on what I've been reading from the TC reports, it sounds like Kearse has a very firm hold on the #5 WR designation. Small sample size, but the reports are indicating that Kearse has actually shown good hands so far. Kearse has always been a starting caliber NFL WR with horrific hands, so this could be something worth paying attention to. If he fixes his drop problem, he'd hardly be the first to do it.

Hawkblogger was so impressed with Kearse in one of his recent reports, he even floated the possibility of Kearse getting a starting job next year if Tate leaves in FA. If Kearse develops solid hands, I don't think that's a stretch, especially since we don't have a ton of improvisational WRs right now, and Kearse will work to get open.

I think the development of the other 3 will spell the end for Rice. Next year.
Sidenote, It is awesome that they are surrounding the QB with weapons.

Have to say i'm surprised about Kearse. He's always (going back to his college days) seemed to have the proper package, but never the proper end product. If he's turned it around and greatly improved his hands, good for him!

This makes me wonder if the issue with his eyes -one that he ignored for years- was actually affecting his depth perception. Maybe the problem never was his 'hands,' but rather his eyes. We'll have to wait and see how he does in actual games.

I didn't think quinn had much of a shot when tarvaris showed up.

Tarvaris is a .500 QB in every way, and guys like and respect him, and thats what you want in a backup QB when you have a superstar int he making like Wilson. A guy who is at a point in his career where he realizes exactly what he is and will go all in on being as effective as he can as a #2.

Quinn on the other hand is a guy that loses games for you. He hasn't proven at any stage that he can even be a .500 game manager. When he's had the chance to do so he's been bad.

All great questions. Your right, these won't get any air time. Unless, of course, one of those players happens to do amazing things with another team.

Doc, the memoirs will be a while. So I will give it a shot.
1. Pete: That doosh is a bad influence on my young wideouts. John: That is a hell of a cap hit. Pete: We have room for that hit? John: Yeah. Pete: Cut his ass.

2. They asked him to take less. He said no. The cut him. (seriously, the guy cannot practice)

3. Braylon didn't make the catch vs the Bears. Baldwin was finally healthy after injury problems all year. Bye, Braylon.

4. Evan Moore dropped more passes than he caught. The drop he had in SF might have been the difference in the game. Seriously, he cannot catch.

5. TO is a dick. That made it easy. And at the time, Braylon was playing better.

6. IIRC, White lasted a couple of days, not weeks. He was lazy at practice. Gone.

My guesses:

1. Cutting Housh made no sense from a personnel perspective. Cutting him saved no money, not even from future seasons. It did free up opportunity for BMW, but why not keep Housh as a rock solid #2? Housh gave very good answers in interviews and seemed, to the public, to be towing the line as well as anyone. I was mystified by the decision and still am. The only explanation I have is that Housh must have been a very different person when the media wasn't around. Back then, Pete was a new coach entering under heavy skepticism. He needed to establish credibility and authority. One such way to do that is by making examples of players who misbehaved as he would define it. Which is exactly what he did with Lendale White and Housh.

3. What Scott said, plus the fact that Jermaine Kearse was turning heads in practices. Kearse was called up around the same time that Edwards was released.

4. Evan Moore was a disaster. They kept him longer than they should have.

5. TO had been out of the game for nearly 20 months, and it showed. I don't think attitude was an issue. TO was in desperate financial straights and at the end of his rope career wise. When Seattle did release him, there was a tinge of pain in Pete's voice when he insisted that TO would catch on elsewhere, and that NFL teams shouldn't think he's done. So I don't think Pete was in any way pissed at TO, just the opposite. But it was clear after that 2nd preseason game that TO was not NFL ready and might not be for months. IIRC, TO had something like 5 preseason drops before his first preseason catch (which he bobbled). Edwards was having a solid preseason which made the decision very easy.

6. What Scott said. Seattle acquired White for almost nothing. Looking back, I almost think Seattle traded for White just to make an example out of him.
