Good for Tuel! I've always liked his skill set and strongly believe he's a NFL QB, who unfortunately for him, had odd circumstances dampen his talent. NYCoug likened him to Alex Smith, which is a very apropos analogy, IMO.

This COULD change depending on my boy EJ getting right.

Wide left: Jackson looking great in Seattle.

Wide right: Fitzpatrick looking great in Tennessee.

Bills ticket holders getting buffaloed.

(Aside from Spiller) EJ was the smartest move made by the Bills in quite some time. I wish them luck but they really have to get their heads out. I can understand them releasing Fitz...but TJ was cheap and would have made a great mentor / back up to Manuel (IMO).

I think the Bills had a pretty solid draft this year.

EJ Manuel, Robert Woods, Kiko Alonso, Marquis Goodwin... Some pretty good players right there, only real gamble I see is the Goodwin pick, but if they develop him, that dudes gonna be scary.

Agreed. I was more referring to their QBs.

At USC, Woods got a raw deal. Kiffin was desperate and Lee was flashy. When Woods suggested he would like to be more involved (again), that made him a "selfish player"...which was absolute bullsh*t. He's a great kid and he's going to have a great career as soon as he gets a (healthy) QB. My favorite WR in this draft class and Buffalo has a new Andre Reid.

Word, if everything works out like it should, that's gonna be a very good mix of players they have there in Buffalo with Manuel, Stevie Johnson, CJ Spiller, and Woods.

I'm hoping Tuel gives the Bills reasons to pull out their hair. But not because of bad play. I'm hoping that they have an absolutly tough decision weather to go with EJ or stick with Jeff.

I did find Mike Leach's comments on Tuel starting to be quite humourous. He praise Tuel but said that the QB hasnt won many games insinuation in my opinion that he thinks Tuel will flop. Now i'm not a WSU fan but i do live in that side of the state and i dont remember him having a very good roster around him in Pullman. Sure a good couple pieces every once in a while but from what i can remember WSU has had a very mediocre roster for several years now. I may be wrong so do correct me in that sense.

Tuel's got skills. I'm interested in hearing more from Strap on it. His comment would usually be "Tuel Sucks", but he added detail, so, there's a story there.

Leach comments were funny and spot on "he's got more upside than anyone they brought in, but he just doesn't win"

Has this ever been done? Rookie un-drafted FA QB. Starting. Seems like it would be news but I can't remember ever hearing of one.

Tony Romo was a UDFA, but he didn't start right away. Brian Hoyer was also a UDFA who started last year (kind of by default, as with Tuel.)

This is the first time a undrafted rookie QB will start week 1 in the modern draft era.

This might be tl/dr for some.

Where to start with Tuel....

Paul Wulff was a terrible coach. That's as good a place to start as any.

He should have stayed redshirted. In hindsight there is no doubt to this. Worst OL in D1 and they threw an undeveloped true freshman to the wolves in the middle of the PAC 10 season.

Watch the 2010 highlights on YouTube and you'll see the potential from what was a 19 year old who still needed to grow physically quite a bit.

He got much bigger before his junior year. Then he broke his collarbone on an awkward fall against freaking Idaho State when he had the flu and refused to sit out because he's that kind of player. He was ready for what could have been a 4000 yard season despite the horrible line.

He rushed to get back on the field for the Stanford game, got hit about 400 times and then got hit another 200 more the next week against OSU. By halftime he was done. i think that was the acute compartment syndrome. Didn't play the rest of the year. Potential break out year down the crapper.

Exit the big mistake that was Paul Wulff. Enter Mike Leach.

Leach brings a new offense but still has a terrible foundation on the OL. Long story short, he made the decision to build for the future at Tuels expense(and I don't fault him for it), and Tuel still led as a senior, worked his tail off and did what he could to keep the team together through a rough transition. It paid off at the end of the year. Scoring 2 TDs, a 2pt conversion and a drive for the tying FG in the last 10 minutes of the game in the Apple Cup. Coming back from 18 down to win in OT.

Then the NCAA hosed him. He should have been give a medical redshirt to play one more year in college, he needed it. They wanted him to give them dirt on Mike Leach and say that players were abused. He refused to lie and/or give any info that would be twisted to condemn Leach. He has the talent, a very good athlete but he is probably 2 years away from being a good, reliable backup. That's my honest opinion of where he was at when he left WSU.

He's smart enough and he's tough enough to play in the NFL. He doesn't have an elite arm but he can still make all the throws and run pretty well. The main questions really are his preparedness and adjusting to the speed of the game. It may be too much too soon, but there might not be a choice. Hope they don't put much on him if he does play and I hope the idiot segment of Bills fans realize they have no business expecting him to just show up and take down New England. They had little chance even with Manuel, and even less with Kolb.

CrimsonWazzu, thanks mang. For real, good stuff.

I had a similar, less detailed, view of him from afar. If Tuel was placed in a better situation at WSU, he could've worked up to being a day 2 pick.

I think so too. He still has room to grow physically, and would have been huge for WSU and for himself as well if he was given his 5th year. Next year's QB class is weak IMO, he could have been a 3rd-5th rounder depending on need and emergence, plus crap like Johnny Football sorting itself out.

Honestly I'm torn about the excitement of him getting to play, and the reality that if he has a bad day out there it could be damaging to his development and the perception of him to other teams if/when he leaves Buffalo.

Pray for a miracle, but prepare for a disaster.
