Hard to get good when you constantly miss practice and games with injuries.

Carp will get better when he can stay on the field every week.
Well... I say it again... CARPENTER HAS NO DEDICATION OR COMMITMENT TO THE GAME.

Based on what exactly? Your many indepth conversations with him or months of watching him rehab his knee? No, much more likely that you pulled this nonsense square out of your ass...

ProFootballFocus graded all of our linemen (except one) negative with Carpenter being the worst of them. The lone positively graded lineman was Giacomini.

I'm hoping it was just travel and heat and an early start because our linemen looked horrible out there yesterday.

Exactly. It was a bad day had by all, not just the one big guy with dreds that many have designated as their preferred whooping boy for this season. And for all that people seem to be in all kinds of a hurry to dismiss them, that actually was a damn fine D-Line they were up against... despite the fact they have Colin Cole who it appears did not put up a single measurable statistic yesterday (presumibly because he is fat and lazy and sucks and doesn not care to be any kind of elite football man).

Yes. Ryan is 100 percent right. It is awfully hard to miss an unathletic, long haired, fat guy that lets defensive lineman run right around him like his feet are buried in cement.

And of course his physical condition makes it very easy to assume that it has been a contributing factor in his seemingly endless injury history.

Is he our best offensive lineman? No, but he has the best hair. Oh and he's strong too.

This thread is identical to ones on Unger and Okung in the past.

...and we'll undoubtedly see more threads like this in future years when draft picks don't live up to unrealistic fan expectations.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

There is something the coaches see with Carpenter that we don't know. I am sure if he was all people are presuming him to be negatively in this thread, I don't think Pete and JS would have shipped him off. I think he will come through and may be it is purely coming back from an Injury and getting into game time speed.

A lot of Carp ripping here, and yes he looked far from dominant, but our worst O line performer was Mcquiston IMO, yet no mention of his garbage performance? I saw pancaked at least 3 times on pass protection... and i mean bad...

Every guy on the line was, at times, very bad today. To single out Carpenter? It's obvious you just don't like the guy. Probably the same people who ragged on Max Unger his first few years too.
Boy are you gunna get it, for coming to Carpenters defense.
What most here are NOT alluding to, is how garbage the Panthers front seven are, I mean Stor, and Lemont Keuchley? (see, I couldn't even spell their names right)
Carpenter was playing in nice warm weather, and his mind was probably on laying on some beach with an ice cold drink in one hand, and a hottie in the other.
Hell, I don't know, even though we won, maybe I should panic?

McQuistan isn't the chosen whipping boy. And yes, he was just as bad, if not worse than Carp.

What cracks me up is that draft position factors in to how much certain fans rip on certain players. If McQ was the former 1st rounder and Carp the veteran FA signing, good chance it's McQ who gets all the hate. That's stupid to me. How a player was acquired shouldn't affect how much criticism he gets or doesn't. Each player is playing football for the Seahawks. Their play should be 100% the reason for crticism/giving a pass. Who cares how a player was acquired? Unless it's a player like Aaron Curry making a ton of $. So what? You want your guys to play well. Period.

A couple of things - against the pass, unlike McQuistan, Carp doesn't get bull rushed. He's too big and strong. I think that helps Unger and Sweezy as they'll be freed up more to double team more against the pass. It's hard to argue with the overall success of the line when Carp was in there.

Also, did anyone else notice on Marshawn's "big" run towards the end of the game, Carp showed decent mobility by getting to the 2nd level and keeping Keuchly out of the play? Sure, he's not Randall McDaniel, but he's not a complete stiff either. Give him a few games to get in playing shape.

I think it's pretty telling that Cable & Pete had him in for the two critical drives at the end of the game (one of which ended in the go-ahead TD, the other in killing the game).

Carp looked like he was limping a couple times in the game - I hope he didn't reinjure his foot or knee

So I watched every snap of Carpenter and it is actually concerning to me how wrong most people in this thread are. He had one absolutely terrible block and that was when he went to block out on the DE Greg Hardy and he made a great move and went right by him on the first play he was in the game in the second half. It was ugly and I suspect that is why people are having such a problem with the game he had. Other than that he played great and made every block. The only other two others I can see anyone having a problem with were when he went to block Kuechly twice in the first half. One he inexplicably just didn't block him but Kuechly wasn't involved in the tackle anyway. The other one he was supposed to block Keuchly in the middle of the field on a play that was going toward the sideline and Kuechly made a great play by tackling Baldwin. It was the one where Baldwin was tackled high by Kuechly.

Other than those 3 plays including two of which were really minor, he played a great game. I suspect people saw the Hardy play where he admittedly looked terrible and applied it to the rest of his game. I would take that performance from a lineman all day.

These are how the Seattle drives went.

1st Half
1st Drive (gained one yard, 3 and out). Carp not on field.
2nd Drive (0 yards, 3 and out). Carp not on field
3rd Drive (74 yards, 15 plays, Field Goal). Carpenter at LG
4th Drive (61 yards, 9 plays, Fumble on 1st and 10 from the 12 which was not Carpenters fault in the slightest) Carpenter at LG

1st half Totals without Carp 6 plays 1 yard
1st half Totals with Carp 24 plays 135 yards

2nd Half
5th drive (7 yards, 3 and out). Carp not on field
6th drive (7 yards, 3 and out). Carp not on field
7th drive (28 yards, 7 plays, field goal) Carp not on field
8th drive (74 yards, 6 plays, Touchdown!) Carpenter at LG
9th Drive (76 yards, 9 plays not counting victory formation, Ran out clock) Carpenter at LG.

2nd half totals without Carp 13 plays 42 yards
2nd half totals with Carp 15 plays 150 yards.

Game totals
Without Carp 19 plays 43 yards (2.26 Yards per play)
With Carp 39 plays 285 yards (7.31 Yards per play!)

So who had a bad game for this offensive line? If you say no one then you need to unplug your DVR and throw it out of the window.

I don't have any idea, all I did was watch Carpenter and he did well besides one play and the couple other minor ones I described. Four of the Five drives that Carpenter was not involved in ended in 3 and outs. Every drive he was involved in was successful including the fumble because they were flying down the field and had first and goal from the 12. Again, they averaged 7.31 Yards over the 39 plays he was involved in. If you want to take out the one long td reception because you think it throws off the average we still averaged well over 6 yards a play when he was in the game.

This is his last chance if he can't stay healthy and contribute he won't be on the roster next year. To early to call it though as far as how he will play this year.

Yep. This is a contract year for him correct?

He either delivers this year or will be labeled a first round bust.

Hey thanks big train, I vividly remember a couple plays were Carp looked like he was loafing it. Thanks for looking at all his snaps. That really made me think he was playing poorly. Thanks for changing that perception.

Walter Jones and Steve Hutchinson provided the standard of being utterly immovable on a bullrush and utterly unavoidable on a trap or run block, and now Seahawks fans expect that of every starter. The reality league-wide is much different.
