I know that this is a bit of an academic exercise … as most of us have already looked at the Seahawks remaining schedule … but I’d like for us to really stop for a second, step back, and let it really sink in what this team has accomplished thus far and what’s ahead …
Do you realize that after last night, the Seahawks have played 4 of the 8 road games on their schedule? They are 3-1 in those games.
Not only that, but coming in to this season, a lot of attention was placed on the fact that the Seahawks had 5 games on the East Coast that started at 10am on their schedule – a fact many of us thought extremely unfair of the schedule makers. Well, the Seahawks are now 2-1 in those games. They have only 2 of those games left and the combined win total of those 2 teams … is 1-10 (OUCH!)
Here are the records of the Seahawks Opponents in the 4 remaining road games that Seattle has … along with the Offensive and Defensive DVOA Rankings according to Football Outsiders (as of Week 6 – their latest edition) …
2013 Seahawks Remaining Road Games …
Only 2 of the Seahawks 4 remaining road opponents has a record of .500 or better.
Let’s take a look at the Seahawks remaining schedule as a whole …
2013 Seahawks Remaining Schedule …
The combined records of the Seahawks remaining opponents … is 20-32.
The combined records of the Saints remaining opponents … is 24-28.
Of the Seahawks 8 remaining opponents … only 3 of them have a record of .500 or better.
And of those 8 opponents … only 2 of them have DVOAs in the top 15 in BOTH their Offense and Defense – the Saints and the 49ers.
The Seahawks now are 7-1 in games on Monday, Sunday and Thursday nights since Carroll took over as coach in 2010. [Next week’s upcoming game against the Rams … is on a Monday people.]
Through Week 8 of last season, the Seahawks were 1-4 ON THE ROAD. Since that point (including the playoffs) … the Seahawks are 6-3 ON THE ROAD.
Since losing the very first game of his career back on September 9, 2012 … Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have a record of 18-6.
The Seahawks have won 11 straight home games dating back to December 24, 2011 (a 19-17 Loss to the 49ers.)
In their 3 Home Games this season … the Seahawks Defense has allowed an average of 11 points/game. In those games, they have held opposing QB’s to a Total QBR of just 15 (Best in the League.)
Given all of that, there is a high degree of probability that this team finishes the season with a record of 15-1 … or 14-2 (if we project a loss either against the 49ers at Candlestick or [heaven forbid] the Saints at home].
For this team to be 6-1 at this point with all the injuries that this team has dealt with this season … and the constant shuffling of the lineup is absolutely remarkable. Can you just imagine what this team is going to be like (say Week 13 or so and that Saints game at home) when the Hawks get Okung back, Giacomini back, Wagner back, and Percy Harvin back healthy and firing on all cylinders? LOOK OUT!
If this team just continues to play the kind of football they are capable of … one game at a time … and continues to consistently bring the same kind of attitude, intensity, and focus that they’ve shown thus far, both on the field and off the field, week in and week out …
The #1 Seed … Home field advantage throughout the playoffs … and a possible trip to the Super Bowl are very much in focus for this team.
Here’s to basking in the glow of a 6-1 record and all that entails for the next 10 days. Enjoy it now 12’s, but keep this in mind – the best is yet to come.
