I know that this is a bit of an academic exercise … as most of us have already looked at the Seahawks remaining schedule … but I’d like for us to really stop for a second, step back, and let it really sink in what this team has accomplished thus far and what’s ahead …

Do you realize that after last night, the Seahawks have played 4 of the 8 road games on their schedule? They are 3-1 in those games.

Not only that, but coming in to this season, a lot of attention was placed on the fact that the Seahawks had 5 games on the East Coast that started at 10am on their schedule – a fact many of us thought extremely unfair of the schedule makers. Well, the Seahawks are now 2-1 in those games. They have only 2 of those games left and the combined win total of those 2 teams … is 1-10 (OUCH!)

Here are the records of the Seahawks Opponents in the 4 remaining road games that Seattle has … along with the Offensive and Defensive DVOA Rankings according to Football Outsiders (as of Week 6 – their latest edition) …

2013 Seahawks Remaining Road Games …
Week 8 (10/28) at Rams (3-3 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-10.5% [23rd]) … Defensive DVOA (8.4% [22nd])
*Week 10 (11/10) at Falcons (1-4 Record) … Offensive DVOA (14.4% [7th]) … Defensive DVOA (18.4% [31st])
Week 14 (12/8) at 49ers (4-2 Record) … Offensive DVOA (3.9% [12th]) … Defensive DVOA (-7.4% [10th])
*Week 15 (12/15) at Giants (0-6 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-18.3% [28th]) … Defensive DVOA (9.3% [24th])

*10am East Coast Start

Only 2 of the Seahawks 4 remaining road opponents has a record of .500 or better.

Let’s take a look at the Seahawks remaining schedule as a whole …

2013 Seahawks Remaining Schedule …
Week 8 (10/28) at Rams (3-3 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-10.5% [23rd]) … Defensive DVOA (8.4% [22nd])
Week 9 (11/3) vs. Bucs (0-5 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-19.2% [29th]) … Defensive DVOA (-11.3% [5th])
*Week 10 (11/10) at Falcons (1-4 Record) … Offensive DVOA (14.4% [7th]) … Defensive DVOA (18.4% [31st])
Week 11 (11/17) vs. Vikings (1-4 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-9.0% [22nd]) … Defensive DVOA (9.8% [27th])
Week 12 – BYE
Week 13 (12/2) vs. Saints (5-1 Record) … Offensive DVOA (15.5% [6th]) … Defensive DVOA (-2.1% [14th])
Week 14 (12/8) at 49ers (4-2 Record) … Offensive DVOA (3.9% [12th]) … Defensive DVOA (-7.4% [10th])
*Week 15 (12/15) at Giants (0-6 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-18.3% [28th]) … Defensive DVOA (9.3% [24th])
Week 16 (12/22) vs. Cards (3-4 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-12.7% [24th]) … Defensive DVOA (-10.6% [7th])
Week 17 (12/29) vs. Rams (3-3 Record) … Offensive DVOA (-10.5% [23rd]) … Defensive DVOA (8.4% [22nd])

*10am East Coast Start

The combined records of the Seahawks remaining opponents … is 20-32.
The combined records of the Saints remaining opponents … is 24-28.

Of the Seahawks 8 remaining opponents … only 3 of them have a record of .500 or better.

And of those 8 opponents … only 2 of them have DVOAs in the top 15 in BOTH their Offense and Defense – the Saints and the 49ers.

The Seahawks now are 7-1 in games on Monday, Sunday and Thursday nights since Carroll took over as coach in 2010. [Next week’s upcoming game against the Rams … is on a Monday people.]

Through Week 8 of last season, the Seahawks were 1-4 ON THE ROAD. Since that point (including the playoffs) … the Seahawks are 6-3 ON THE ROAD.

Since losing the very first game of his career back on September 9, 2012 … Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have a record of 18-6.

The Seahawks have won 11 straight home games dating back to December 24, 2011 (a 19-17 Loss to the 49ers.)

In their 3 Home Games this season … the Seahawks Defense has allowed an average of 11 points/game. In those games, they have held opposing QB’s to a Total QBR of just 15 (Best in the League.)

Given all of that, there is a high degree of probability that this team finishes the season with a record of 15-1 … or 14-2 (if we project a loss either against the 49ers at Candlestick or [heaven forbid] the Saints at home].

For this team to be 6-1 at this point with all the injuries that this team has dealt with this season … and the constant shuffling of the lineup is absolutely remarkable. Can you just imagine what this team is going to be like (say Week 13 or so and that Saints game at home) when the Hawks get Okung back, Giacomini back, Wagner back, and Percy Harvin back healthy and firing on all cylinders? LOOK OUT!

If this team just continues to play the kind of football they are capable of … one game at a time … and continues to consistently bring the same kind of attitude, intensity, and focus that they’ve shown thus far, both on the field and off the field, week in and week out …

The #1 Seed … Home field advantage throughout the playoffs … and a possible trip to the Super Bowl are very much in focus for this team.

Here’s to basking in the glow of a 6-1 record and all that entails for the next 10 days. Enjoy it now 12’s, but keep this in mind – the best is yet to come.

Great read. I know everyone is looking forward to the Saints game, but damn i cannot wait to go to Atlanta and completely decimate that crap team in their own stadium.

Also this sentence right here gave me cold chills:

The #1 Seed … Home field advantage throughout the playoffs … and a possible trip to the Super Bowl

The best is yet to come.

Indeed.

Which is precisely why I was eagerly willing to imagine an undefeated season when we were 4-0.

We have a fair chance to not lose another game that matters to us for at least 10months.

Disagree all you like.

That's what I believe.

I believe too. So does Marshawn.

Yeah, we have the inside track on a bum leg. Imagine what happens when both legs are healed.

Great Post. Can't even imagine how crazy it will be if we go 15-1. Lots of years rooting for sub .500 Hawk teams as a former Californian and Seahawk fan since 4th grade (1978).

I know precisely what you mean. I've been a faithful Seahawks fan since 1977 (6 years old.) You and I both ... and a whole lot of people on this board have seen A LOT of bad Seahawks football. Bottom line -- this is fun.

If both the Seahawks and Niners win the rest of their games and the Niners beat the Seahawks they will have to go all the way down to "strength of victories" to settle the tie-breaker. If that's the case they would win the division because they beat Green Bay and we would have beaten the Vikings, and unless Josh Freeman turns into Daunte Culpepper or Fran Tarkenton over night I think the Packers will have the better record.

I get the feeling that the Seahawks and Broncos will combine for one more loss between now and next March.

Great Post!

What stands out to me on that schedule is that we get to go @ NYG in December. What better way to prepare for the BIG GAME than a clear eyed preview of the stadium, field conditions, crowd noise etc...almost like a scrimmage at the same stadium the SuperBowl itself will later be played at.

I don't know about you guys, but I think that "warm-up game" is one of the many keys for us winning it all @ New York in February.

Good point about the warm up in New York. Hawk fan since moving to Seattle in 83, and winning is so much better. I love watching our defense, and the offense is just getting warmed up. Strap on the seat belts...

WOW! That's a great point and something that I hadn't considered. You're absolutely right on that. Let's hope that it doesn't come down to that.

For those who are unaware of the NFL Tiebreaking system, here's how it works (according to NFL.com) ...

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs
1.Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3.Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5.Strength of victory.
6.Strength of schedule.
7.Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8.Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9.Best net points in common games.
10.Best net points in all games.
11.Best net touchdowns in all games.
12.Coin toss

Not gonna matter cuz the Hawks will beat the Whiners at the Stick. Marker my words.

San fran has a couple difficult games before they get another crack at (from) us.

@New Orleans
&
VS Carolina
could pose a problem-although they get a bye prior to Carolina, whereas Carolina travels to SF after playing @ ATL.

Let's hope you're right. Because it looks like the Broncos are taking that loss tonight. (unless Peyton pulls a miracle)

Well...the Bronco's just pulled within six, so that Miracle is not out of the question.
