He was certainly not immune to criticism in other venues.

Forget about the roster; the Seahawks looked dysfunctional this offseason. John said they fired Pete for underperforming with the current roster and then went out and got a young head coach. Fine. Do they pair him with an experienced NFL staff? No. The staff is filled with young guys who've either a) never been a coordinator (DC) or b) never been an NFL coordinator (ST, OC).

Seattle is setting MM up to fail. They set high expectations before the season, gave him a very inexperienced support structure, and threw him to the wolves. It's almost like they are caught between two separate modes. Are they trying to contend or rebuild? It's unclear to me.

He did indeed say this and it pisses me off every time I think about it. That philosophy is why I don't think he will ever get the job done.
JS hasn't valued interior o-line for years. I mean the man put Dee Eskridge above Creed Humphrey on his draft board.

The timing was a huge factor, IIRC. We had to wait for MMac to become available, i.e., Ravens lost in the playoffs, and by then a lot of top staff coaches had been snapped up. MMac and JS had to work with what was still available.

Part of that was Seattle's indecisiveness, though. They could have interviewed MM and begun to put a staff together much sooner, but they took too long to fire Pete and missed the WC window.

You may recall the timing specifics better than me. I was just happy we got MacDonald, he was my first choice. I think we need to give him a much longer leash than what some here are doing. I think Schneider gets a new shot clock of 2 years along with MMac. Pete built the Super Bowl teams based on cheap young O-Lines that could generate some push. Schneider, MMac, and Grubb haven't had much of a chance to bring in O-Line talent that fits their philosophy and wasn't from the scrap heap of other team's castoffs.

The Seahawks were an average team in 2023. They lost players to free agency and had less than average Draft capital. Rookie coaches make rookie mistakes and their 1 difference making player wasn't available. They don't have a top 10 defense or a top 5 offense. The Bills game was a perfect storm. Re-group and move forward.

Gotcha. Seattle needed to request an interview with MM by the 10th or 11th of January, but they didn't fire Pete until the 10th, so they missed their window to interview him. A good comparison is Atlanta. They fired their coach the day the season ended (Jan 7th) and interviewed Macdonald three days later. They knew they were firing their coach and were quick to act. Seattle didn't even send out interview requests until the 15th, 8 days after the season ended. The front office looked unprepared to fire their head coach.

I agree with you on MM. He deserves more time. But Schneider and Grubb? If we're not at least hovering around .500, Vulcan meddles, and one of those guys is gone. It's unfair to Grubb, but as I mentioned elsewhere, he's the perfect fall guy.

Do you have the quote where John said Pete was let go because he underperformed? I can't find it?

Watch his first offseason press conference. Whenever he was asked why changes were made, he said the team underachieved.

not saying he's not immune but you know that every single coach in the NFL has final say on players, right?
You must have missed the press conference after Pete was fired and it was laid out that JS had final say one everything.

Whether he's an iron fist or not is moot. Every team is set up differently in structure. Claiming every HC has final say is wrong.

We didn't value guards before this either.

We could still pound the goddamn rock.

It's coaching.

Schottenheimer and Solari coached league-leading rushing attacks in 2018 and 2019 with an out of position Pocic, Germain Ifedi, and DJ Fluker starting. They traded out Pocic for a past-prime Iupati in 2019.

It's. Coaching.

I'm so sick of all the back-and-forth about Geno and MM. When does THIS GUY start getting some blame??

We moved on from ME3. We moved on from Pete. He's the only constant. I'm so sick and tired of this team getting pushed and shoved around and looking like complete garbage in the trenches. This is all on John. Sure, they have good individual pieces (who doesn't?). But this team is soft AF where it really counts. And the depth sucks too!
Slowdown brother... This is his first year without Pete and if you're not familiar, but Pete had draft & roster control for the longest time.. Give John & Mike time to develop before you call for hi head...
