From someone who, as everyone here knows by now, has followed Darnold's career, I was just sick and tired of hearing 24/7 about the last two games as a Viking last year.

over and OVER AND OVER....

So when Sam went out there and was efficient...and had his Head in the game (mentally prepared unlike last season against Detroit), I was ECSTATIC watching him *finally* get it done.

It wasn't the High-flying Sam-to-JSN-TD show but a CAREFUL Sam Darnold with this Defense? THAT WINS YOU PLAYOFF GAMES *AND* THE SUPERBOWL.

So I'm going to just enjoy and revel in this win moreso than many here not just for the Seahawks but for someone for whom this is a long time coming.

After all the mockery, the stupid "Ghosts" jokes, the dismissal of any positive play he's done while taking GLEE from watching him struggle by "Analysts" (some who never picked up a football in their lives), and the constant criticism....to see him finally get this win is very Cathartic, imo.

A hearty EAD and GFY to all the Naysayers out there who thought this would be a repeat of the Lions game last year. So for those people I give you this emoji : 🖕

And for the Seahawks fans that gave Sam a chance here (yes, even @Aircrew despite his misgivings)?

LET'S F*CKING GO!!!!

WE'RE THE 1 SEED, BITCHES!!!

FINALLY?

It's his first year here dude.
Excuse me, "dude", but I was referring to him in terms of his career and what happened last season (in particular).

Chill out.

(thanks for the Necro of a thread dedicated to the 1-seed victory, though)

The media has just now realized their lazy narrative:”Sam is good, BUT” is just untrue. Sam has grown and and continues to grow. Reality is Sam is good and is becoming great. Those who are saying different or who still not accepting his genuine talent are just more BUTTHEADS.

Darnold is elite and has been been. He’s fire 8 ypa over the past two years too. He won multiple huge games this year and is in the SB when half the fan base screamed he was a massive downgrade from Geno was was the worst QB in the league this year. Experts continued to doubt him all year and he kept proving people wrong. Happy for him and his path.

Agreed. Which QB's around the league would have won that QB duel with Stafford yesterday? You're talking about less than a handful.

You are absolutely correct. Sam is an excellent QB and has proven it over the last two years. Jets were just a bad start for anyone.

Sam to me doesn't care about stats or selling his recovery water,
he is a TEAM player and has learned to not make the mental
mistakes that lose games.
He is content to just manage the game and not be a star of everything,
he tells you all this in postgame and pregame interviews, I love the
guy!

Sam Darnolds total QBR of 82.9 was the second highest of the postseason behind Josh Allen.

Eleven QBs get over $50 million per year. Sam isn't one of them. Another 5 get over $40 million per year. Sam isn't in that category, either. He's in the bottom half of the league in QB salary, and he's going to the Super Bowl.

Makes the argument that he wasn't prepared before in big games

So you are saying he changed and is now a good player but wasn't before?

There's a reason Sam was the overall # 3 pick in the draft (and was highly considered to be going # 1). Glad he finally found a place where his talent has been fully developed and appreciated.

I've been following Sam's career since his freshman season at USC, where this kid who was largely brought in to be a backup QB began to really wow everyone in summer camp, so much so that the 5-star QB they had recruited literally transferred to Arkansas TWO WEEKS after camp ad begun. He saw the same thing everyone else saw. The thing that amazes me is how many NFL coaches have failed to see this in Sam.

Sam Darnolds struggles the last two games with the Vikings were mostly on the OL. He was completely under duress the entire games

Sam's OC with the Vikings did him no favors with a terrible game plan that left him as a sitting duck most of the game.

sigh....I can't believe I'm going to have to explain this but here goes :

My point is that last season it was the first time he was ever in a situation with high stakes like it was that final Regular Season game with the 1-seed on the line against Detroit.

If you actually had watched the game like I did back then, you would've seen that he was wildly inaccurate (missing WIDE-ASS OPEN receivers left and right) meaning that the moment seemed to have gotten to him.

It happens.

That's what I meant by being or not being *mentally prepared*.

He did not seem like he was.

Fast-forward to this year against the Niners in another big game for the 1-seed and he GOT IT DONE.

Why? Because he had the experience of what he went through last year to build off of.

He knew what to expect so he was better locked-in this time around.

I don't know how much more clear I can make this.

Also to your latter point, I've always thought he was better than he was portrayed. Hell...when he was a Panther and went 4-2, he almost dragged that sad carcass of a team into the playoffs if it wasn't for Brady and the Tampa Bay Bucs.

So you are wrong in your assumption that I thought Sam was no good.

Hope I helped explain my rationale better.

Before this season, Darnold had played in a total of one playoff game. Not really enough to define someone as a player.
