If you were re-drafting 2024, do you still take Murphy?

Verse isn't as impactful on the Seahawks.

His college teammate was taken in round 2 at DT: Fiske. Fiske had 51 QB pressures,, 8.5 sacks, and 2 FFs, 13.2% pressure rate=5th among int DL. Draft one without the other and you won't get the same results. Additionally, Rams led the league on QB pressure from DL stunts. That's not a stat Verse owns. It's the entire line that had to be re-made without Donald.

It's irrelevant to discuss Verse v Murphy. You have to take Seahawks top 3-4 picks to equal Rams round 1 and 2 (Seahawks didn't pick in round 2). Verse and Fiske were a set, not individual pieces. If the Seahawks had picked up the 2nd or 3rd best Edge rusher in 24 along with Murphy, would that have elevated Murphys stats?

Assuming the OL in Seattle makes a notable improvement, it won't be solely a result of Zabel.

Also, another Hawkblogger stat was Murphy's pressure rate was way better than Fiske. Fiske just had way more pressure opportunities. Hopefully he is used better this year.

I wanted either Murphy or Verse last year at the draft. We are pretty stacked at Edge already so Verse didn't make a ton of sense considering DT was a huge need. Brian Nemhauser said Buron Murphy was ranked 7th I think in pass rush win rate as a rookie. He turns 23 September 8th. He played well but he will only get better in time. I'm glad we took Murphy and would retake him if there was a draft redo.

After much contemplation about this subject I say yes YES. There’s a few reasons. Reason one is we didn’t take Jalen Carter. Reason 2 Jared Verse is good but so is Murph II. Reason 3 without murph our defensive line, especially the middle, is eligible for AARP benefits

Murphy is what the DL needed, not another edge player.

His sophomore year was tempered by Coaching input.

Jared Verse didn't have great sack or QB hit numbers, but he just seems to be everywhere when he plays. I heard an interview with Terron Armstead two days ago where he said that Verse was out of this world. He said he thinks Verse is a future defensive player of the year.

I think the jury is still out on Murphy. Some of the buyer's remorse over Murphy comes from how well T'Vondre Sweat, his linemate from Texas played for the Titans last year. All the scouts said the numbers favored Murphy even if the tape said Sweat. Well, Sweat didn't go until the second round but turned out to be pretty good and ended up in the running for DROY.

I know some people hate this kind of debabut I think this is exactly what this forum is for. It's harmless fun and entertainment.

Verse is incredibly strong for his size but also has explosive quickness. Bears played Rams last year so I got to see him closely. Murphy was less than I was hoping for, but could improve this season. But for now, I’d trade him for Verse in two seconds.

Well, I'll put it this way. Murphy seemed like the right pick at the time to me. He was generally considered one of the best available players, and DT was one of our biggest needs.

I'll also mention that our run D had been horrifically bad for a couple years and absolutely had to be addressed. They were 30th in 2022 by rushing yards per game allowed, and 31st in 2023. They were 16th last season. That's a huge improvement. There are other factors of course, but I have to believe that Murphy was a significant one, and quite possibly the most significant one.

I thought Murphy was a good pick at the time, and I still think it was a good pick. But more importantly, I think it was the right pick for the Seahawks at the time. It's really hard to win games in the NFL if your D can't stop the run.

A hamstring injury can knock a player out of the lineup (week 3).

It can take a while to work back from an injury.

Murphy's conditioning should be at his best yet returning from his first pro off season.
