Jared Verse didn't have great sack or QB hit numbers, but he just seems to be everywhere when he plays. I heard an interview with Terron Armstead two days ago where he said that Verse was out of this world. He said he thinks Verse is a future defensive player of the year.

I think the jury is still out on Murphy. Some of the buyer's remorse over Murphy comes from how well T'Vondre Sweat, his linemate from Texas played for the Titans last year. All the scouts said the numbers favored Murphy even if the tape said Sweat. Well, Sweat didn't go until the second round but turned out to be pretty good and ended up in the running for DROY.

I know some people hate this kind of debate, but I think this is exactly what this forum is for. It's harmless fun and entertainment.

True. But there's also a LOT of time spent on envy of other teams and/or bashing of JS. Just sayin.

Great discussions, yes. But on the other hand, the constant "our pick sucked, their pick was amazing" does get a little old. Especially after ONE season. As if it's etched in stone that our pick sucks vs. another team's pick.
A select few acting like Byron fricken Murphy is already a bust? My god, lighten up people.

For the sake of participating in this topic I'd go with Verse in a re-draft. But, he's probably not making it to the Hawks pick in a re-draft.

I'm very optimistic in regards to Murphy though.

Yeah, it should be done in the right spirit.

But envy, remorse, bitterness, and anger are human reactions and we should be able to express them, in small, digestible amounts.

And I think even stupidity is all too human, and will express itself, from time to time. Who am I kidding, I should say all the time.

The fact that I had to stop for a second, to remember that he was just a rookie last year, is all the answer I needed.

Verse would not have had the same kind of season, at least through the first seven games, on the Hawks, as he did on the Rams.

Give him some time. He had an okay rook year taking on doubles. Now it's time for him to step up a bit and get some pressure as well. I think he will be okay for us long term.

McVay wanted Murphy over Verse, (or another edge rusher), or at the very least he didn't want the Seahawks to get him. Most Rams fans wanted an edge rusher over Murphy. Verse was a majority choice but it wasn't clear cut. Teams made choices rather than mistakes. That said Murphy doesn't look like a game changer and with hindsight the other choices listed might be. Sure, change the pick, but that could also turn out to be wrong. Joining a team in transition isn't easy.

Yep, he made it known. Yet, he gets praised like some genius for taking Verse. Well, the guy he WANTED was taken by the Hawks.

I get it but neither in college nor in the pros did or does he remind me anywhere near Aaron Donald. Not built like him, doesn’t move like him. The comparison made zero sense.
I do agree the comp itself feels a little off. I just get fired up when people act he’s a bust because he wasn’t all-pro as a rookie. I like the kid, and think a solid, and more importantly, necessary piece of the D.

You do wonder if Laiatu Latu hadn’t been drafted by the Colts @ 15 if he would have been an option he was the most NFL ready of the DEs

He would be far easier to evaluate, if we had a legit NT. BM got screwed having to play out of position a lot last year. And that’s on JS, who still didn’t address the issue this offseason

It'd be easy to say Verse based on last year (and there would be a great case for it), but I've always thought that great DT's are so disruptive to an offense. They can collapse the pocket from the jump, open up opportunities for the DE's, and stop the run. Hopefully Murphy builds on his successes from last year and continues to evolve into that truly disruptive DT.
