He's playing really well right now. I hope he continues this throughout the season. In 2022, he got off to a hot start but his play dropped in the 2nd half of the season.

Let them.

Yep, I am simultaneously calling him the best QB in the NFL right now and someone that we need to let walk if he demands much in his next contract. Both are true.

At his age, it's too much of a risk. The wheels could stiffen up at any time. He's playing great right now, but the season's only a quarter over and Grubb's system has yet to be adapted to. What are we hoping a new contract will get us - maybe one Super Bowl with him? (It isn't happening this year.)

After seeing the look on his face and then MMs face , i don't see this team slowing down even after defensive adjustments by opponents
Getting the feeling that by mid season we're just getting going
Grubb will probably have the kinks ironed out by then
Another draft and off season trading/FA pick ups and obviously shedding some vets we will be improved enough to contend
This year playoffs may be in the pipeline but nfccg would be expecting a lot, now could they get there , with the right match ups yes , but with the wrong ones it's time to watch from the couch
Either way
Go Hawks

Well, then let him EARN a new contract. He just signed one. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd like to see a player actually sign a contract and honor it. At least for a season or two. IF he kills it all year, THEN give him a big deal. It's not like he's making chump change.

And yes, I'll get blowback, I'm certainly used to it :)

Geno still has another year on his contract, and the Seahawks have typically refused to renegotiate until the offseason before the final year. They'll reevaluate at the end of the year, just like they do every year.

I suspect Geno will get a nice pay increase but it'll be something that doesn't hamstring the team for a decade.

Unless we make a trade for a 1st with a team that gives us a top 3 pick we have to extend him
Right now we probably get a 1st but likely after the rw debacle we aren't getting much more, unless , the donks are ready for round 2 lol

Geno has looked great but you can't be the best when you have thrown as many TDs as picks and your red zone efficiency is not good.

I know money is money and people will walk away or go to another team should compensation be too hard to pass up…

However, with Geno, I’m thinking Geno understands that the Seahawks gave him a chance when there was not many suitors looking at him….

That’s gotta play a pivotal role….

Not saying he didn’t work his ass off to get to this position he’s in and playing really damn well and now considered a top QB in this league.

Will another team work for Geno as well as Seattle does? Not all grass is green on the other side.

Should Seattle extend Geno with another contract? The man, just signed one.

Let him play it out first and we’ll see what happens. Even if he does turn out to be a MVP candidate, the season is just going to Week 5, a lot can happen between now and end of December.

Let’s see how this year plays out, first!

I believe he's the fifth-oldest starting quarterback in the league right now, and that's including Andy Dalton, who was expected to be the backup. I'm not arguing that there's no chance he can't keep this up for a few more seasons, but this one is kind of complicated and there's a lot to consider before committing further.

He's playing well enough where slapping the franchise tag on him is defensible, assuming he keeps up this level of play the rest of the season. That would make good business sense, although you risk pissing off your starting QB and team leader. I wouldn't consider it unreasonable if he viewed that as a slap in the face after agreeing to a team-friendly contract previously.

Ehh, while I see what Daniel is getting at in his piece, I'm not so sure another team would overpay Geno compared to what John Schneider will offer him. And I'm not so sure Geno wants to go to another team and start over unless we're talking about a significant increase in pay, which I just don't see. I think Management and Jody Allen will make sure Geno gets a contract extension in the upcoming offseason that is fair and market value for his services. And I, personally, would be happy to see Geno Smith as our starting quarterback for the forseeable future. At the right price.

Why teams want to sign Geno:
Accuracy, fast release, athleticism (he ran 20mph+ recently), poise under pressure, locker room friendly.

Why teams may not want to sign Geno:
Age

If Geno wants a two year extension, I will give it to him now if the price is right. If Geno wants 3+ years, we wait.
