Geno has low mileage for a QB, his body has been able to maintain itself with no real injuries and getting NFL conditioning and medical for years, he has stayed on top of things also, he can't run like he dies if he doesn't. ME3 has been beat up and it shows, that's the difference between lots of miles and low miles, also other than practice his arm has been lightly used so the tendons are not stretched to where they fatigue and he loses his velocity level, plus he has a strong arm anyway.

Lots of positives, Grubbs offense also suits his abilities, get him a line so play action works better with protection and the ground game becomes feared. Geno will be in the top half of QB's for the near future.

It may be worth mentioning that even though he is somewhat old at 34 he doesn't have the miles on him like other QB's do.
True, and it's probably because of that that he's still got the wheels he's got. It's really impressive. I just don't want to lock us down for four years and Mahomes dollars based on it.

Nothing against Geno, but if we are looking for a leg up on the division, then we want Geno like production but at Howell money. Geno's signed through next season. I'm not a fan of spending big money on a (then) 36 year old QB before we absolutely need to and without exploring other options.

Yeah, we're stuck at a Russell Wilson crossroads here.
  • We could pay him a boatload of money and hamstring the rest of the cap on other players and hope his skill will suffice to make up for the lack of great players on this team needed to make a SB push
  • We could trade him next year for draft compensation
  • We let him finish out his contract and walk, potentially receiving a comp pick in the future
Personally, I do not feel confident in extending him past his current contract. Age is an issue. Yes, he's playing at a high level but father time is undefeated and imo it'd probably be best to handle this the Belichick way and trade him while he still has value and is uninjured. I know I'll probably get heat for that opinion but I feel like this team is trying to get YOUNGER.

No rush to have an opinion on this IMO. There's so much that can still happen while he's playing on his current deal. He can continue improving or he can regress. Maybe we get a meaningless game at the end of the season where Howell plays and just shreds or looks lost. Maybe Geno's contract demand is high but trade value is either too low to pull the trigger on or too high to ignore.

The "miles" is hard to measure, people age at different rate, don't we? Most QB play started go south around 36? With exceptions like Brady who played into 40s or Russ, he ain't the same post 32?

Using 36 as a gauge, a 2-3 year extension could work?
For sure, I think regardless of the " wear and tear" factor age is still age
Combat Sports would be different though lol

Why are so many people concerned about Geno's age? He'll be 34 at the start of next season. That's not old for a quarterback. Aaron Rodgers won two MVPs after he was 37. Cousins and Stafford are both 36 and still producing at a high level.

Quarterbacks who age poorly in their mid-30s tend to do so for three reasons: A) They rely too much on their mobility to impact the game, B) They lack arm strength to compensate for aging, or C) They can no longer take the punishment, either physically (injuries) or mentally (eyes down in the pocket, happy feet, etc.).

Geno shows no signs of any of these issues. He's extremely mobile yet does most of his damage in the pocket. He still has an elite arm and shows no signs of wearing down. Is there any evidence that Geno could slow down soon because of his age?

This is pretty much where I'm at. Soooo much can happen between now and the end of the season.

Well, then let him EARN a new contract. He just signed one. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd like to see a player actually sign a contract and honor it. At least for a season or two. IF he kills it all year, THEN give him a big deal. It's not like he's making chump change.

And yes, I'll get blowback, I'm certainly used to it :)
This. Totally agree. SOP for the hawks is renegotiate when 1 year left isn't it?

If he finishes the season the way he started it, totally agree - pay the man, but from my recollection, he's been a little too hot and cold for 2 seasons to start with 50MM or 60MM conversations right this second. Needs to book this season at the current rate - or close to it without a huge falloff or "great 1st half of the season, then tanks the 2nd half".

And I have ZERO animosity towards Geno. He's killing it right now.

Edit: And, when I heard his 'camp' beaking about this basically before the season started (I forget exactly when the beaking started) - I was like: Tell your agent to keep it in his pants dude.

I'm so over this guy. He acts like he's the best Qb with the least respect but he can't seem to string together two flawless games back to back. He falls apart under pressure and can't get his mind out of his own way.

Tonight was too many missed opportunities with too many turnovers. He's not a leader and cannot take this team on his back when needed. This young group of men need a leader who doesn't stay rattled by poor play.

Can we see Howell please? I mean if we're dealing with growing pains anyway...

I mean we are still going to be a dogshit team no matter who we put at QB with our Defense and DK fumbling and dropping passes.

Geno is OK its just our o-line stinks like week old trash and he knows it.How can Geno be consistent if it's going to be in the back of his mind that on every pass play he knows he needs to get it out extremely fast. He is missing so many open receivers. Heck how could Geno not see walker so open on that last drive? I have yet in 6 games seen Geno have ample time to stand strong in the pocket with time to scan the field and pick a defense apart. And I strongly feel if it wasn't for Grubb we could be 0-6 or 1-5.Our current O-line gives me the same exact feelings as the Mariners.
Utterly disappointing

OL trouble is the norm around the NFL. Pressure on the QB is something good teams do. Not getting a ton of time is not adequate excuse for failing to perform in the NFL. Heck give a QB all day to throw the ball and all of them would look good.
