IF it happened, I think the hospitals in the Seattle area would need to be prepared for a huge flux of health issues for Seattle fans that day!

I think this would be unprecedented. Only a handful of QB's have ever even played at age 44 or older. Pretty sure you could count them on one hand. But I don't think any of them we're out of football for 4/5 years before they did it. Crazy.

I love it, and I can't wait to see him play. Shame I have to wait until the next week to route for him.

I guess Riley has a strained knee ligament and is week to week.

Yeah it’s not happening. Whomever the Colts play a week from Sunday might just face him though.

It is going to happen, this signing makes no sense otherwise. He is familiar with the offense, and has actually played with a number of players on the team. They are going to run Taylor left, right, and center, but Rivers is going to be back there at QB 100%.

Per Google: Only a few NFL quarterbacks played into their mid-40s, with
Vinny Testaverde, Steve DeBerg, and Warren Moon all taking snaps at age 44, while Tom Brady played to 45, and the legendary George Blanda (QB/K) played all the way to 48, making him the oldest ever, though Blanda played multiple positions

You don’t get signed to the practice squad at 44 and face one of the top defenses in the league in just five days. Come on now.

Ain’t happening.

Oh, it's happening. For the Colts, it's desperate times, and desperate times call for desperate measures.

If your choices are (1) an injured Riley Leonard, who is also a rookie (2) Brett Rypien whose QBR when he last played was 20.4, or (3) a 44-year-old Philip Rivers, who do you choose?

I'll gladly eat crow if it happens.

Steichen and Rivers have history going back to the Chargers. Rivers going in probably will know the playbook and terminology

He's been running that offense with his HS football team, on top of his familiarity with it at the NFL level. He definitely knows the playbook.

I still have dread thinking of him dinking and dunking on us during an extremely hot game in San Diego. He just hit every damn pass i swear and it was a nightmare.

It's not just that he's 44. It's that he's 44 and also hasn't played a game in the NFL in 5 years. If he plays, I'll be shocked if he doesn't get injured.

There aren't any good options for the Colts at this point, just 3 bad ones. Personally, I'd go with Leonard if there's any way he can play. If not, I'd go with Rypien. Throwing Rivers to the wolves against one the best D's in the NFL at this point is crazy AF. It's been 5 years, man.

Phillip Rivers is a 44yr old man that hasn't played in 5 seasons, and the last years of his career he was a statue that couldn't move, I say load the box stop Johnathan Taylor, and FORCE Rivers to throw the ball and get after this man..

Phillip Rivers at halftime... 🤣

Don't get this narrative that he's a future hall of famer. Was never the top qb in any year he played or probably top 3 and no super bowls. Hall of very good yes. Brees, Brady, Rodgers, Manning, big Ben were better. Even Eli and Wilson have better cases

Yep. I legit worry he would end up in the hospital.
