HIS CHOICE.
Yeah, we're just discussing the situation. None of us have any control over anything we're discussing, and doubtful any of us have any more insight than the professionals involved. On the other hand, sometimes we're right - how many of us feel smarter than the Viking's GM after his post-2024 season decisions? (not me, I thought Darnold would flop).

Looking forward to revisiting this halfway through the 2026 season.

I think he should have stayed another year, but the guy has a chance to be a HC in the NFL. He's CHOOSING to do it, even if we want him to stick around. Can't blame a guy for wanting to become a HC. And let's be real, how many of us would pass up an opportunity like this? VERY few, imo.
And if it doesn't work out, he'll likely still get another shot. Plenty of coaches fail in their first stint as a HC. Several of the greatest we've ever seen had a crap first stop.

Kubiak haas grown up in football, has lots of time in the league, is a insider so to speak, has the same type of pedigree as Shannahan and Schottenhiemer. all actually pretty close in age give or take ten years also. Raiders will give him rope, support him and also fall on his sword if it comes to that.

All OC's and DC's want to be HC's. We've seen some who jumped at HC opportunities as soon as one came up, with disastrous results. Like every other discussion here, these are just armchair quarterback opinions.

My best personal point of reference is a time when I was offered a project manager job at work that I felt I wasn't ready for - very high profile involving millions in revenue that would have done great things for my career if I succeeded; however, I realized at the time that my chance of success was about zero - I would equate it to the success chances of the Brown's new HC. Having the title until I failed miserably didn't seem like a great idea. (Someone else took it, failed, and we lost the contract).

I don't think Schottenheimer would still have a job anywhere other than the Cowboys. Jerry Jones gives a lot of rope, simply because he wants to prove his decisions correct, but I don't believe the Raiders will do the same, for anyone.

They waited for who they think is the right guy. We made the same gamble.
I didn't get the impression that that's how it went down. No one wanted the Raiders job, or the Cardinals. When those were the only two left, and Kubiak still hadn't gotten chosen for an HC job, but apparently was going to take one if at all possible, it was inevitable.

I was at A&M at the same time as Kubiak's Father, Gary, and lived in Denver when he was Elway's back-up, so we got to meet him at former student get-togethers. Great guy, incredibly patient...very cerebral and quiet. Hated that he had all the health issues, but loved that he got another ring as Denver's HC. I hope Klint has continued success after he gets his ring for Sunday's game.

And these OC and DCs don't care.
The difference is the money. Kubiak would have to be someone's OC for years to make what he can make as a head coach. Even if it's as poorly ran as the raiders

I guess one year must seem like forever when you are young.
