Whats up with him, are they just not targeting him, is he just not getting open? He had one target, one catch, but he should be a weapon for us.

They need to utilize him more on 3rd downs in particular-he showed a real knack on slant routes. 1 target just doesn’t make sense.

Well, 40+ carries in the run game might have something to do with it. :twisted:
He's a recognized name player and I'm sure the Vikes had a plan for him. Right now he's kind of a sleeper option for critical moments. From how things played out, we probably should have sat Tyler and given Gordon more snaps.

He wasn't exactly killing it with the Pats either. Hopefully he's not in decline for whatever reason. He has been through a lot.

Anytime we have to throw on 3rd down, I am hoping it is going Gordon's way. I am a big fan of Lockett and DK but I feel Gordon has the combination of size, hands, and route running that makes me feel he will keep the chains moving.

Really hard to come onto a team mid season and pick up the offence. Especially if it's entirely different than the one's you've been in. And the Hawks play a really different style than the Pats.
Gordon has his routes, he gets 2-3 targets off those routes. Probably all you can expect after 3 weeks with the playbook.
That and the Vikings were playing a lot of 2 deep safety to protect themselves from Wilson's deep ball. That led to a heavily run biased game plan. When you've got seven blockers and the Vikings are only putting 7 in the box, it's a gimme if you run.
Hell even the read option would have been open a lot as they weren't even spying Russ.
Anyway, Gordon will get some opportunities as he's clearly a gifted player but I wouldn't expect complete mastery of the playbook until January.

He's money on those slant routes and they need to feed him the ball on more of those.
He really has great hands and crisp route running! It would be great to get him more involved with the offense, but I'm not disappointed as we have been doing fine with the run game. Just need a few more legitimate targets per game IMO.

Overreaction. There's a reason why offseason matters. I think fans tend to underestimate how hard it is to just come in and light it up. Give it time, we should know by now that Pete brings players along carefully to build confidence. He doesn't rush success

I'm happy with how he is coming along. It takes some time for things to sync up between a QB and a receiver, and I suspect Wilson and Gordon aren't quite there yet.
From a long-game perspective, I like it too. We have a chance to figure out how he is going to do, mentally, when he has to apply himself, but isn't getting the targets. Does he stick with the program, or does he stick his lower lip out and pout? If we use him, but don't feature him, he won't have the stats to demand a big contract next year either.
I like the idea of bringing him into the offense slowly, and I love the fact that we are doing just fine despite both Lockett and Gordon being used sparingly. Things will look much better, down the stretch, when Lockett is at full strength and both are fully integrated into the game plan.

Maybe, but there are good receivers that come in and have no problems with picking up the system. Sanders from Denver to SF comes to mind. I can also see it if we are so dependent on specific timing routes, yes in that case QBto WR would take some time to develop. Gordon on the other hand has been an elite receiver and really, if he's open, he's open and Russ should see it on one of his progressions.
