The question becomes, what to do with the 25 million they would "save" by cutting Geno? You have to do something with it to make the team better than it would be with Geno, either now, or in 2026 or 2027.
Justin Fields (who would be my FA target) isn't taking 25 million APY, but you could likely sign him to a 30 million APY contract with a cap hit less than 25 million for next year.
I would prefer to bite the bullet, roll the dice, and take a late round/ UDFA gamble at around a million APY.
We have around 46 million coming off the dead money books next year. I'm not sure how much of that we need for existing and new commitments, but we can spend what we have on free agent acquisitions, and look to 2026 for either drafting our QBOTF, or bringing in a Matt Stafford to Rams / Tom Brady to Buccaneers type of acquisition, if the rest of the team is ready to roll the distance.
