Regardless, it was a super catchable anticipatory throw in the intermediate middle, and it was an NFL plus pass. They let him down on that. That might've been the best throw of the night. Just like Fant let him down the week before.

And then Dareke screwed him too.

And then he was screwed by the Gabe Jackson penalty on a very good throw to Cade.

And also had that bat down on an open route, which was just a great defensive line play.

Sorry if I'm a bit on the defensive here. I'm not trying to attack your viewpoint. I just disagree with his assessment after watching it entirely too many times in slow-mo. Not sure why I do this to myself over preseason, but hey. Football fandom I guess. I'm far from infallible and not a guru by any means, so I could be off-base.

Neither Lock or Geno are the answer, obviously, but while Lock may be more likely to make mistakes, he's got a better chance to make plays, too. His floor may be lower than Geno's, but if you're already rock bottom, that doesn't matter.

It also looked like the safety arrived to leap up, maybe obscuring Swain's view for a second. The ball couldn't have been thrown much lower, and still cleared the safety. But maybe my angle is off.

My two penny:

Did Geno single handedly L this game?

1. Did he throw a pick 6? No
2. Did he throw INTs? No
3. Did he fumble at the wrong place wrong time? No.
4. Did he mis-execute plays? We don't know, but probably not.

So no, he didn't single-handedly hand the game to the Bears. How did he do?

1. Did his over, under throw his receivers? Yes, a few.
2. Did he had perfect passes dropped? Yes, a few
3. Did OL helped him? No, too many penalties.

One thing we know for sure, Geno didn't call his own plays, and being preseason, coaches want to test certain plays, in my book, Geno probably deserve a C+ or B- in executing Shane's plays.

Geno played better than want met my eyes. But he also showed his ceiling, when things weren't going his way, he didn't have that extra gear.

It's strange how people defend every Geno Smith performance but point out every Drew Lock flaw.

When I was in newspapers, we had a position called late slot. They were entrusted with changing copy and headlines, but wouldn’t ever unless there were calls by the executive editor.

Geno is the classic late slot. For years, he has created a aura of competency, but when pressed, he delivered a clunky headline, or subbed in the wrong goddamn paragraph, or whatever.

Its the same in football. Do we go with the kid with no experience or stay with the grizzled old vet? To clarify, I’m talking Geno and Eason.

is the worst QB in the NFL. The worst to actually have a shot at getting minutes at least. He was already rated dead last by The Athletic. The fact that it's a "competition" for the starting spot is hilarious. This is why so many people inside the building were pushing for Mayfield and now for Jimmy G. I'm telling you that we will come to regret not getting Baker.

At least he's not Johnny Foosball. The fact that we never drafted him makes him far less of a liability than McGwire. Personally, I think Pete always expected the job to go to Lock. With that in mind, the QB position has clearly been written off at the moment.
