I musta missed the people who said he was elite
I did think after the russ broken finger deal geno outplayed him but never thought he was elite , he was never that good but could run the offense better than ME3 was running it towards the end and then geno started throwing to the other team , like a lot in the red zone and apparently he thought he was elite lol
Pretty good take. He had some phenomenal stats, and was on the cusp of putting it all together, but didn’t have the equanimity that would have propelled him into the elite category.
The biggest thing that stood out to me, other than the ill-timed interceptions, was his inability to work the pocket. So many times he failed to just step into the pocket that was there for him, instead, he would put himself in a bad, unprotected position. The ability to silence the noise, keep a clear head, and work inside a dirty pocket is one of the key things that truly separate the elite from the rest of the pack.
Overrated by many during his time here, and underrated by just as many simply because he’s gone, Gino was a star, albeit a shooting star.
When he left, he had two pro-bowl appearances, comeback player of the year, Seahawks record for yards in a season and completion percentage, which was also the best completion percentage in the league that year, NFL record for 4th quarter/overtime go ahead TD passes, tied franchise record for consecutive 100+ passer rating games
I don’t know if age caught up to him, or just his lack of composure, but he clearly fell off the pace he was briefly on
