Let's say Wilson gets the contract he desires, which is to be the highest paid player, what would our expectations be of him? Particularly his stats..

Personally, I think he needs to step it up and take control of the offense rather than being the beneficiary of M.Lynch's dominance and focus. Especially with Jimmy here now. He needs to show it this year that there will be an offense after Lynch leaves (which I hope he never does)

So in regards to stats, I will be expecting a 30td/4k yards season along with average rushing yards he usually gets.

You can put up monster stats and lose. Winning is the only stat that matters. If he's our qb and he continues to get us double digit wins and division titles every year, I'm happy.

He keeps improving, not big on stats because we don't throw a ton right now. His expectations remain the same regardless of the contract. Winning

So you want him to be a passer vs dual threat. Or are we talking 4000 passing and 900 rushing?

If so, I think he would vault to the best QB in the league.

Disagree.

You could see this a bit last year too when they tried to incorporate Percy into the offense. And they got cute.

Just because you pay to keep a guy doesn't mean you go away from what you're good at. Run the ball, read-option like it was 2013 aka don't get cute, pass as an option. Even with Jimmy Graham, I'd say keep the same recipe and evolve as needed but don't change it out of the gate.

Which also means, forget the stats. Go with what works and get the W baby!

Every QB is part of a team and Russ throws accurate quick slants when the play is called and he has some one to throw to.

You sound so spiteful of Wilson right now.

Wilson is just as important to the team as Lynch is, as ET is, and as Sherm is.

Let us not forget that before Wilson showed up this team was a 7 win team. In 2011 our D was still top 5 and we still had Lynch. We won 7 games. Since then we've won 11, 12, and 13 games. I don't think it's a coincidence.

Pretty simple. He'll have to prove he's the best.

  • No more slow starts. Especially in the post-season.

No more come-from-behind wins when we should be coasting easily to wins based on having the league's best defense.

The ability to hit receivers coming out of their break instead of running around and playing sandlot football.

Wilson is going to have to prove he is worth the players we will have to let go in order to keep him. That likely means a drop in defensive effectiveness, so we need more output from the offense.

But most important is my first list item. He can't keep digging holes in the first half in order to come back heroically in the 4th quarter. We should be leading going into the half with the potency of our defense. No excuse for coming out cold.

He needs to show the promise that 5-6 years hence, when he has lost a step in his rushing attack, he can be the elite passing threat that makes the money worthwhile. He has made strides, but isn't there yet. Partly this is the fault of the Hawks for not providing the best set of targets for him. Partly it is scheme, but partly, that scheme exists to maximize the best aspects of Wilson's skill set while masking his weaknesses while he works to overcome them.

I think another year before signing a contract is good for big sides. It gives Wilson another year to prove that he is worth top dollar and gives the Hawks another year to evaluate if he is worth it. Wilson will have to accept less money than he wants if he signs this year because the Hawks won't know for sure if he can take that next step in the passing game until after this season.

Anyone that is desiring huge passing numbers from RW without a MAJOR improvement in pass protection from the O-Line is not thinking logically, at all.

When you are getting serious pressure in the backfield two seconds after the ball is snapped even Manning or Luck couldn't do much with that.

GO HAWKS!!!

"Let's say Wilson gets the contract he desires, which is to be the highest paid player, what would our expectations be of him? Particularly his stats.."

I feel like all recent reports are saying he is not really pushing for highest paid. He's saying 'I'll take 3rd highest just above Cam but I want more g'teed money'. That's what I'm seeing in most of the recent stuff. The 'turning down 21 mil' storyline seems more about other factors than just the 21 mil.

Marshawn is clearly awesome, but it's also objectively true that his best and most dominant years have been with RW. I'm not sure you can just un-couple that and make it seem like Lynch is just carrying RW. The Seahawks don't go for as many yards as some high powered offenses, but based on % of offense accounted for RW doesn't get much more "help" than other top QB's. He accounts for a bigger % of yards than Brady and is close with Manning. Rodgers is 3% higher and tops in league. Just want to be sure we are clear RW is a huge contributor to the offense. Our offense as a whole is less volume, but not because RW specifically contributes a smaller %.

Those % stats are for last year.

The offense isn't going to change. "Expectations of" RW should be more consistency. The team is getting him taller targets so hopefully he'll hit them instead of throwing some of his throw aways. I would hope that with every new season he improves, not simply because he's getting paid more.

I think at least 30 TDs is a fair amount to expect from him this year. Yards doesn't mean anything but I could see him get 3800, with probably 300 rushing. I think he will run less with more weapons. Stick to what we do best, that is grind it out, and bust out the explosive plays, but I want it to be like the 2012 team where we were scoring like no one's business, and with Graham and Tyler looking to be a good addition, I think we will blowout 3 teams this year. The magic number is 3, and we will be going to our 3rd Superbowl. 4th year of #3 going to his 3rd Superbowl will align with the number 12.

I think if he signs for top money or top 3... Expectations will be as high as...

4200-4500 All-Purpose Yards, 30-40 TDs, >12 Ints, 10-14 regular season wins per year.

I agree. I saw recently that two of Wilsons most impressive statistical performances were the 2012 loss in Atlanta and last year's loss in STL. He can go nuts when he needs to.

I would say the "because" is more like because Seattle does not have enough 2015 cap space left to extend both Wilson for 4 years and Wagner for 4 years, which is obviously the team's preference.

If Wilson wants an APY of $24-25M and a signing bonus of more than $20M, he definitely needs to wait until next year to negotiate that contract when the salary cap increases because the team cannot afford that in 2015.

Clayton explains it in detail here... http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/13325 ... g-camp-nfl
