That's a reasonable take, and given his body type, I do have concern that the injuries will start piling up. I see a LOT of comments though acting like he was Kadarious Toney or some lazy selfish diva who couldn't cut it. It's some weird revisionist history.

As you alluded to in you first statement - I think it was the glimpses of what he "could" be that caused the issue. Every so often he would high point a ball using his size and actively snatch a ball away from a defender a la Megatron. So we, as fans, would see that and want him to be that guy all the time. Which he simply was not.

He was and is a very good receiver but like others have mentioned, not worth paying the price the market deemed.

He will always be one of my favorite Seahawks.

Running lazy routes resulting in picks when the game is on the line sure gives a bad look.

Is this something that happened routinely? I feel like when people say this, they're talking about one game (vs Minnesota). I'm not knowledgeable enough to be able to watch a route and know whether it's run correctly, but I don't recall anyone coming out and saying what happened on that play. Having watched Genoception in Vegas this season though, I have to wonder if perhaps he has trouble staying on the same page as his wideouts.

The overall sentiment of this thread is how I feel about DK. Appreciate the good plays and memories but he had deficiencies in ability and character at times. I harbor zero ill will about the man. As @SoulfishHawk often likes to point out, he’s no longer a Seahawk so time (for me personally) to move on.

DK wanted out of here and wanted elite WR pay. He got what he wanted and the Seahawks are better off because of it.
JSN getting targets is vastly superior than having DK demanding targets and often not making the most of it.

So the counter to a defense jumping routes is calling plays such as go routes, corners, sluggos, seams and posts. Who ran these types of routes? DK. Even if his rationale is valid, it still translates to: he wanted more targets.

Later that season, Grubb would call (failed) long developing plays on 3rd and 2, when he should have just called a quick slant? With DK in his ear, it leaves clues as to why.

I'm the last one to defend DK, believe me, but that's a big leap in logic to suggest DK just wanted more targets. He got on the headset after a 3rd down where all WRs ran curl routes at the line to gain and the defense was jumping them because they kept doing that. Grubb wasn't adjusting at all. Sounds more like he just wanted Grubb to take advantage of what they were doing.

BTW, to be clear, this wasn't to take a shot at DK. Up to this point, he's put up the stats that he usually does, so he's not doing bad. I'm surprised that the reception ratio between the two is that big.

But shout-out to JSN, who has not only taken on a heavier load, but is having a whole lot of success. Credit to Darnold, and even Kubiak, even though I know he's not the most popular guy around here.

Truth be told almost 20% of DK's
409 yards came on one long play

The Seahawks had Metcalf under contract for $18M in 2025. They shipped him out and brought in Kupp at $17.5M. If you wanted to compare stats Kupp has 24 receptions for 293 yards at an average of 12.2 yards per reception and 1 TD. Kupp doesn't have the deep ball threat but he brings intangibles to the squad.
