It was like practice out there for matt holy shit I'm watching the replay of the game. Seriously we need a better defensive line that should be our number one priority in the off season. I know Clemons was out but wow

Hawksfan quit whining dude I'm just evaluating the game. Sorry you can't detect sarcasm from my other thread. Its pretty obvious I'm not a bamdwagoner and turned the game off. I've watched every snap this season. I'm a ******* die hard hawks fan

back to the topic. Interceptions are NOT more important than sacks and pressure. Anyone who knows the game of football knows your success is made from the lines. Its singlehandidly the foundation of having a successful and consistent offense/defense

plus, getting to the quarterback will make him throw more inaccurate throws which would then let our backfield make a play. We were relying too much on the backfield to make plays. How much of that was caused by Clemons being out I have no idea. But it hurt

Where was Irvin? He's worried about his disrespect, but all he does is run by the qb every play

You just said a TURNOVER is not more important than a sack...ruins all credibility for me

So basically you are saying sacks and pressure leads to TO's. I win.

I'm saying pressure on the QB is the most important thing on the defense. Yes that can lead to more interceptions but you can't rely on our backfield to get all these interceptions when there's no pressure!

It all goes hand in hand, obviously. I get your point about how a QB will throw a pick while under pressure, but still sack numbers are very misleading. Take the SF-GB game where Rodgers took 1 sack, but it was obvious he was under pressure most of the day.

We can debate all day long about how a QB would complete all his passes if there was no pass rush, or how a QB would complete all his passes if there was no coverage, blah blah blah. All of them are essential to playing football.

And BTW my point was, that you were trying to argue the defense did a horrible job on Matt Ryan because it seemed like theirs a lack of pressure due to sacks. Even though we didn't get a lot of sacks, what we did get was 2 picks, which was better than the 2 sacks or whatever that the Falcons got. We didn't do horrible on Matt Ryan, what we did do horrible on was their running game.

Anyone has the list of potential DE Free Agents? Anyone of them that would be interesting?

We got no sacks but several pressures. Most notably trufant blitzed and hit Ryan as he threw the pick to Thomas. So yes we got ppressure and yes trufant even supplied some.

Edit :Wagner, not Thomas (reminder to self: don't post before caffeine)

Atlantas O-Line has been keeping defenses off Ryan all year. This was no different. What lost us the game was covering the slot, and T.E. and reverting to the always game LOSING soft zone tactic.

I can't believe we had Winston Guy on Gonzo.

Interceptions are NOT more important than sacks, nor are sacks more important than INT's. They go hand in hand. Repeatedly pressuring the QB, and backing the threat up with a sack or two causes the QB to make bad throws, which are INTERCEPTED! This then leads to all sorts of good things.... defensive points on the board, opposing QB doubting himself, stealing the other teams momentum, hushing the opponent's fans....... So which comes first; the chicken, or the egg? :D
