In the last 5 drafts the Seahawks have spent the 15th highest draft capital on oline in the first 3 rounds going by draft pick trade value charts. So a little higher rate than average. I still wouldn't call that "heavily invested". Add in the fact that they were 31st in salary spending on the oline and the results are not surprising.
"31st in salary spending on the oline."
And O-line ranked 29/30 in 23' & 24'.
Although I think it's more poor drafting and coaching than salary spending.

I'm starting to think Geno might be pretty good for an old guy.

How about Schneider just gets better at talent evaluation. Let's sign some outside free agents that don't suck and let's stop getting our asses kicked in the draft by the Rams and Niners.

Their unwillingness to pay OL a second contract except in rare circumstances probably has as much to do with that pair of facts than scouting and drafting. Few OL reach their peak in their first contract. By many accounts I've read it takes 2-3 seasons to reach their prime, and by that time they're looking to cash in on their 2d contract and the team has been a bit too willing to let good players go before they become great players.

I think scheme and coaching are severely underrated for what makes an O-Line work.

Individual talent is a giant factor, yeah, and the two vets we brought in on the IOL were disappointments this year (I have two words for Schneider for this FA: Mekhi. Becton. That is all.), but OL outside of straight up man blocking is also very scheme dependent.

Do you know what our run blocking philosophy was this past year? Like, our bread and butter? Neither do I. Some games it would be Duo, sometimes Counter, sometimes it would be Power (which we really sucked at)... a lot of sometimes.

Forget how much musical chairs we had to play across every OL spot except LT (which is in and of itself an issue). When your blocking philosophy changes every single game, when does your line ever get comfortable and establish its identity?

Yeah, an OL needs to be able to execute gap concepts and zone concepts and have different wrinkles built in. But when you are getting outmatched talent wise or getting confused by clever defensive fronts, the inability to fall back on a comfort zone is when all the problems just snowball on themselves.

I said this for Grubb and I'll say it for Kubiak: If he does nothing more than get our offensive line to work well together and come up with just a handful of rushing plays that we can (and do) use consistently to get yards, he'll be a success.

You might be one of the few that has any kind of confidence in JS.

I’ll believe it when I see it happen.

Until then, the spotlight is on JS and his staff. If JS doesn’t get it done this season, it’s a wrap for Schneider.

Continual mediocrity, as Jody Allen, has now shown is not acceptable to her.
are we talking about Geno?

OL spending in the NFC West, in relation to percentage of cap used, is kind of interesting.

1. Rams: 24.50%, NFL Rank - 1st
2. Cardinals: 5.65%, NFL Rank - 30th
3. Seahawks: 5.00%, NFL Rank - 31st
4. Niners: 3.90%, NFL Rank - 32nd

It's a little misleading because both the Cards and Seahawks start a LT, traditionally the highest-paid position on the line, who was a recent top-10 pick and is on a rookie contract. If we give Cross the extension he is now eligible for, and do literally nothing else on the OL, we will jump up considerably. I don't what the hell the Niners are doing. If you're fortunate enough to be getting away with paying your starting QB so little that he doesn't even count against the cap, you'd think you would want to invest in making sure he's protected once you have to pay him.

Here are the top 5 overall:
1. Rams - 24.50%
2. Chiefs - 24.29%
3. Falcons - 21.21%
4. Panthers - 19.54%
5. Texans - 19.85%

A few notables: Lions - 7th, Eagles - 8th, Ravens - 12th, Bills - 17th, Packers - 18th, Steelers - 22nd

are we talking about geDIOCRE?

But give credit to Schneider, he is an elder in the temple of geNOs along with the two of us. Schneider sign geNO as an unthreatening backup, and remains a backup graded QB in his eyes.

Every contract Schneider signed with Geno allows the team to cut him at Schneider's pleasure. Knowing that, Geno avoided risks of injury above fll else.

It's still possible for Scott Huff to be revealed as a big part of the problem. I certainly hope so, because I still do not want to be paying $75M a year for an offensive line.

It's interesting that almost to a man those interior players the team drafted were found to be unable to get their job done and the OLine staffing was like a revolving door..This was also true for the FA acquisitions. I'm not really of the belief that every one of these interior players were terrible mistakes, did they all really suck or was there more to it than that? It seems to me they were frequently just poorly used or the blocking schemes were easy to figure out and defeat.

I have hopes for several of these guys going forward and we will find out. However, I want to see the team continuing to acquire talent and see if the coaches can create a strong OLine capable of both run blocking and pass protection.

JS needs to find Benton some help and not just expect him to coach his way out of it. This is key IMO.

Our heavily invested "Schneider Line" was built to be the second coming of "Hindenburg Line", although it performed more like "Maginot Line".

Our scouting department needs to be fired.
The Maginot Line 🤣

I wish I came up with that a few years ago, would have been a perfect fit for the D-line too
