Lawrence is a very good player, assuming he's healthy and recovered from his injury last year. I've seen the pundits rip this signing, but I don't think they're focusing on the fact that only $18 million is guaranteed. (Brent Sobleski at Bleacher Report, for example, gave the signing a C minus: https://bleacherreport.com/articles...cy-signings-and-trades-day-3-tampering-period.)

I don't hate it at all. I doubt he'll be here for all three years since he turns 33 next month, but he could be a big piece in the next two years. Of course, it underscores the fact that we struck out at the defensive end position with Dre'Mont Jones as well as with Mike Morris, unfortunately.

Fans can fan any way they wish. So I'll not comment on anyone's response. I'll just say that I'm pretty certain, without knowing, that there's not a single head couch or GM qualified poster on .net. So I'll just take everything said here with a grain of salt. That being said, from my chair......it sure is fun when the Hawks make moves, and I can hope for the best from those moves :) And thats what I'll do, HOPE FOR THE BEST.

Carry On

Name chasing is a major JS failing that he won't stop. I think most of us can name several he signed that underperformed their cost and contract.

Not trying to over react but 30+ year old with recent injury issues and little gas left in the tank. Feels like a stupid move in what may be 12 games on the field in 2 years if we are lucky at 1/2 of what he used to be.

I'd rather have a 20 something year old that was the last DE cut from the team with the best DE group in the NFL or a PS DE on a great defensive team (though I am not sure how that works in the off-season - maybe you can't).

MM got a lot of juice out of old ass Clowney in Baltimore. Hope he can do the same here.

You would have a point if the contract he signed was hard to get out of. As it is its 18 mill guaranteed. If he fails this year it won't be hard to move on next year.

Apparently he had Lisfranc injury last year. I find that concerning. Can be hard to come back from.
Dave Wyman said on 710 that during his last year for the Seahawks he had a Lisfranc injury and when he went for some physical testing during the free agency testing it was completely healed he noted he did nothing to get it to heal

I like the move and hopefully he's fully recovered from his injury from last year. This guy is EXCELLENT and stopping the run. Coach Mike is building this defense into impossible to run against and forcing offenses into being one dimensional causing a lot more turnovers and sacks. If everything pans out our Hawks will be a top 5 defense next year maybe even number overall when the smoke settles.

Surprising move to me. I have heard multiple talking heads over the last few years say concentrate on the guaranteed money vs the overall value of the contract reported. So looking at 18M and not the full $42M
It’s agent speak they will always mention the inflated total amount, the non guaranteed portion will never see the light of day. With Seahawks contracts they all max out on 3 yrs, the way they get worded there is usually a team out after 2 yrs. When they have a contract I will take the guaranteed amount and minus 1 year from the total.

I expect the real value of the Lawrence contract to be 2 yrs $18 million

Short of PT most of those injuries require to not use it - so basically doing less is more

The spectacle to make their work look badass and their clients feel all good - like politicians without the scumminess - well…….

Already seeing articles about us not addressing the OLine and our window passing us by. Is there really a ban on 5 year contracts? With these last two signings I have to say, 30something FA's with little left in the tank are not the ticket. The Seahawks have a history of signing over priced washed FA's who stunk. If we are just bringing in bodies to fill out the roster, I'd rather wait for day 3 of the draft & preseason cutdowns.
But you know how GMs are, always swinging for the fences hoping for a little luck to get to a SB.
Except for rookie contracts can you think of any recent Seahawk contract longer than 3 yrs?
