I don't get this move. This guy is 6 years removed from double digit sacks. JS should have gone after Za'Darius Smith. I'm really starting to lose faith in him. You need at least one guy who can give you 10+ sacks a year on your DLine!

His strength is more in the run game, I don't think he is being brought in to rush the passer.

You could have paid Smith about the same as Lawrence and gotten a way better player.

Way better player? It's not even really close, Lawrence outclasses him in almost every way.

He’s solely talking about sack production and ignoring everything else. That’s gotta be why he made that claim, which is just ridiculous.

I was guessing that an Edge would be the odds on favorite for #18. Looks like BPA with the signing of Lawrence.

Excellent point. Would Leonard Williams and his 11 sacks last year like to chime in? Boye Mafe has played 3 seasons, 3, 9 and 6 sacks in his first 3 seasons. Think he can't continue to progress? Derrick Hall has played 2 seasons, 0 and 8 sacks in his first 2 seasons. Think He can't progress? I am not even including Uchenna Nwosu.

DeMarcus Lawrence isn't all about sacks and that's not why he was brought in. For starters he's still one of the best all-around DE's in football. He is one of the best at run stopping, top 3 as late as 2023, maybe would've been last year but had a minor injury that is now fully healed. He is a leader. Another voice this team needs. Sacks are sometimes misleading. He creates a ton of pressure which makes the QB uncomfortable which can lead to your teammates getting the sacks instead of you, bad throws, etc.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. MEH.
Seems like you might just be making stuff up because they didn't do what YOU wanted.
You of all people should be keen to let people have their opinions, man. Why are you antagonizing people for it? At least argue the facts rather than just starting arguments.

I can't remember where I saw it but out of all the guys that played edge in 2023 only 4 guys had an above 90 grade in tackling and this guy was one of them.

I saw a post on twitter from PFF saying the same thing. I also watched Brian Nemhauser look it up and there were only 3 above 90 and he was 2nd right behind Maxx Crosby. Either way, 90's are all-pro level.

How so?? The only stat in your very basic comparison shows Lawrence has more tackles than Smith over his career. These guys are edge rushers, so the stat that means the most are sacks and Smith has more sacks than Lawrence over fewer years. I understand Lawrence was injured last year but he hasn't logged a double digit sack year since the 2018 season and he only has 2 years where he did at all. Smith has had 5 seasons of 10+ sacks including last season.

We don't need a bunch of edge rushers that put up 4-6 sacks we need at least one definitive edge rusher (10+) and then depth guys that can give you 4-6. Smith has proven he can pressure the QB and has better pass rush grades than Lawrence and he's a year younger.

Dude, lighten up. I'm just messing with him, having some fun. And a reference to the Meh thing yesterday.

I couldn't give two sh*** if someone has a different opinion. Makes it more fun.

More dline/edge depth which we really need. Stout against the run. Nearing the end of his career. Fairly inexpensive contract. Not stoked but I like it, he can help in a rotation.

Seriously? Basic comparison? Scroll down, bubba.

Lawrence is a run stopper, not sure where you are getting edge rusher from. He can rush the passer but that has not been his primary responsibility.

We don't need a bunch of edge rushers that put up 4-6 sacks we need at least one definitive edge rusher (10+) and then depth guys that can give you 4-6.

This is a very limited way of thinking, for one. For two, we already have primary edge rushers on the team. We need more guys who can set the edge and defend the run.

Smith has proven he can pressure the QB and has better pass rush grades than Lawrence and he's a year younger.

They are both 32, granted DeMarcus is half a year older. It's almost like you didn't even read the info provided.
